To The Summer After High School When We First Met

No, it's not an ode to Katy Perry. It's literally about the summer after high school.

No this isn't a love story or an Oath to Katy Perry's song. This is literally about the summer after high school. The summer when you create these amazing friendships and create the best memories.

The summer after high school was one of my favorite summers. I'm about three years out of high school and I still remember it like it was yesterday. I felt like it was non-stop friends and non-stop partying. Like all the time. Senior week, graduation parties, goodbye parties, beach trips, and some days by the pool.

The summer after high school is probably one of the shortest summers ever but, it's also the best. There's not much time to do everything you want to do before you go away to college. Between all the dorm shopping, working to save money and all those grad parties, you want to make time for those important friends. You somehow realize who you're real friends are. The people you constantly want to spend time with you before you leave.

The summer after high school you create these friendships with people that are different than all the other types of friendships you have. You become friends so fast. You have all these plans to get done in a short amount of time. You want to spend all this time with these new friends before you leave, so you do stupid things together. The most random things. But you don't want to waste any time so they do not seem stupid to you. They are just little memories to add to this awesome summer. Yes, it sucks creating these friendships so close to leaving. These friendships are different, though. These friendships are drama free and full of fun. It's one of the best friendships to have.

This is why I'll always remember my summer after high school because I created some really awesome friendships and had the time of my life. Shout out to you guys for making it a great summer.

So for you graduating seniors, take advantage of this short summer. Don't sit around waiting for plans or a party. Go out and do stupid things with your friends. When you go away to college you'll miss these little moments you've had with your best friends. These moments don't come very often. Whether it's all day partying by the pool or beach or just driving around eating ice cream, take advantage of those moments because one day you will want them back.

And ps.. be cautious and safe. No one wants to get in trouble with the law right before college and risk being grounded. A.K.A senior week and Memorial Day weekend.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
