Goodbye Downton, Hello New Period Drama!

If you're like me, your probably wondering what you should watch after the finale of "Downton Abbey" ended earlier this year (at least for those of us here in America). Although we all know that nothing and nobody can ever replace the lovely Crawleys and their servants, here are five shows to satisfy the "Downton Abbey" withdrawals:

1. Upstairs Downstairs (2010 version)

A new family and their servants live at the London townhouse at 165 Eaton Place in 1936.

I have heard wonderful things about this series, that it's very much like "Downton Abbey" and that the storylines are great. Better late than never to jump on this bandwagon! Where to Watch: Hulu, PBS.org

2. Poldark (2015 version)

Ross Poldark returns home after American Revolutionary War and rebuilds his life with a new business venture, making new enemies and finding a new love where he least expects it.

This show is wonderful! If you love the character of Kili from "The Hobbit" movies, this is the show for you!

Where to Watch: PBS.org/masterpiece

3. Victoria (2017 TV Series)

The early life of Queen Victoria, from her accession to the throne at the tender age of 18 through to her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert.

I've always loved learning about royalty, and Queen Victoria is no exception! I can't wait for this show to start! It will be taking the time slot that "Downton" held in 2017.

Where to watch: PBS.org/masterpiece.

4. The Crown (2016)

The Crown focuses on Queen Elizabeth II as a 25-year-old newlywed faced with the daunting prospect of leading the world's most famous monarchy while forging a relationship with legendary Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill. The British Empire is in decline, the political world is in disarray, and a young woman takes the throne....a new era is dawning. Peter Morgan's masterfully researched scripts reveal the Queen's private journey behind the public facade with daring frankness. Prepare to be welcomed into the coveted world of power and privilege and behind locked doors in Westminster and Buckingham Palace....the leaders of an empire await.

This show looks so good! It's perfect for Doctor Who fans too, because Matt Smith will be playing Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

Where to watch: The pilot premieres through Netflix on November 4th!

5. North & South (2004 TV Series)

"North and South" is a four-part adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's love story of Margaret Hale, a middle class southerner who is forced to move to the northern town of Milton.

This show also looks really good! I've had people tell me I should watch this series a lot. It is quite short (only four episodes) so it shouldn't be too hard to get into!

Where to Watch: Youtube, Netflix.

I hope this helps those of us suffering from the loss of our beloved "Downton!" Happy watching everyone!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
