The beginning of the semester is both the most exciting and most depressing time of the academic year. You're excited to kick off a new semester with you're new classes and new schedule, but it's still depressing that you can't be a billionaire by sitting at home and binge watching Netflix. The new semester is always a great time to evaluate the previous semester and see what you did well and what you could work on so here is an article with tips on how to succeed this semester.
1. Introduce yourself to your professors. Seriously, professors love it, then you get cool points and they learn your name. If you really visit their office hours for help or discussing the class they may just bump a borderline grade, who knows?
2. Manage your time. Managing your time is extremely important for a full time student, or anyone taking difficult classes when there's a million other things that need to be taken care of. Spend at least an hour a day studying for each of your difficult classes and doing homework.
3. Don't Procrastinate. I know, college student is synonymous with professional procrastinator, but procrastinating causes a lot of unnecessary stress. Turn off Netflix and write your paper.
4. Make time for fun. School is extremely important, but don't spend your whole college career solely focusing on school, get out and do something fun every once in awhile.
5. Ask for help. There are tons of resources for students on campus, don't be confused if you don't have to be. Visit teachers' office hours - they love that stuff, go to an assistance center if there's one available, find a cheap tutor. Always, search for ways to get help.
6. Go to class. Going to class is tough sometimes, especially when you have that boring lecture at 9 a.m., but force yourself out of bed. Missing class means your missing valuable information and maybe even extra credit opportunities and who doesn't love extra credit?
7. Make friends in your classes. This is actually very important, especially for those days you can't make it to class because you have someone to tell you what you missed. Making a friend in class also means someone to study with.
8. Do your work. Always, do your homework, don't miss out on valuable points, write down when everything is due and finish the work early to ensure it gets finished.
9. I'm going to say it again, don't procrastinate. Seriously, get your work done early.
10. Check on where you are each week in your classes. Work ahead if you can, get help, and if you're behind catch up before it gets overwhelming.
11. Remain positive, I repeat, REMAIN POSITIVE. This may be the most important thing on the list. College is extremely stressful, but if you give in to the pressure and begin to complain, what you say becomes what you do. If you tell yourself the class is too difficult and you won't pass then you're not going to push yourself to your best ability. Tell yourself that you can get an A and strive for it, from the beginning of the semester all the way through.
I hope these tips truly help you. Good luck this semester! You're going to do exceedingly well! Remember to always try your best, as long as you do that, a grade doesn't matter.
