How To: Study For Finals

Five steps to success.

How To: Study For Finals

For a lot of us in college finals week is here which means two things: One, It's almost summer vacation (Yay!) and two, it's time to study. (Boo.)

So, what better way to prep for the most important exams of the year than by reading a "top five" list made by someone who should be studying?

Here are my five steps to a successful finals week from the perspective of a college student.

1. Study Hard

Months have past since you first stepped foot in the classroom and now its time to renew your mind with every single note you took this semester. Every. Single. Note. Because when your professor said "cumulative" he meant "cumulative". Crack open every book you bought, every worksheet you completed, and every equation you copied its time to spend 4-8 hours a night trying to figure out what you should know. This will be taxing, and you will break down, but just tuck your chin and power through it, because its the only sure-fire way to Ace these exams.

2. Become addicted to caffeine.

"But how, author, how am I supposed to stay up all night studying?" Easy. Coffee. And lots of it. And by "lots" I mean "All the coffee." You will be fueled by coffee and red bull for the next week and you will learn to live with the jitters and micro-naps. Sleep is the enemy, and to win this battle you'll need a little help for your friends caffeine and taurine. If anyone asks, just say your shaking because of all the knowledge you've absorbed over the past 48 hours.

3. Binge Watch Netflix/Hulu

First of all, bonus points to anyone who can identify the Gif above, second of all, NETFLIX. Yes, NETFLIX. The greatest thing to happen to free time since "getting a job" was invented. Why waste away in your books when you could be binge watching nostalgic classics like "Good Berger," "Courage the Cowardly Dog," and "Goosebumps?" Tired of the classics? Try some award-winning originals like "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmit," "House of Cards," or "Daredevil." Yes Netflix and Hulu, along with other streaming services offer access to millions of hours of content just a click away. wait..weren't we doing somethi.. NOPE. Hours will pass in the blink of an eye but I need to study... When you sit down to watch Netflix, all your cares will wash away this exam is important, I gotta get an A You'll get "A" whole lotta joy when you log in and knock out 28 episodes of "Full House" I should really be studying...

4. DON'T WATCH NETFLIX

Netflix is the enemy. Do not let Fuller House get in the way of your 4.0 GPA. In a study that I just now made up, researches at University College linked watching Netflix to failing every final you take, and that statistic isn't just terrifying, its also super accurate*. So next time you wanna binge on "Orange is the New Black," realize that you're sacrificing time you could be using to guarantee a better grade in a class. Whether it's an easy course or Advanced Nucleo-physics and Trigonometry 3002 , you'll be better off putting time aside to crack open a book instead of cracking open all six seasons of "Ghost Adventures."

*It isn't accurate.

5. Don't Freak Out

Yes, these exams are extremely important and yes, they will be difficult but here's the thing; You know this stuff. As long as you have been going to class, nothing on these tests should surprise you, and as long as you've gone over some of the more difficult concepts you will be golden. Finals week is scary, it is stressful, but it is not impossible. Just another exam like any other you've taken, only worth a lot more points. So, study hard, get enough sleep, and above all else learn how to cheat believe in yourself!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
