Thanksgiving break is finally upon us. For some, this three-day break means finally getting to see the light at the end of the tunnel -- the tunnel being this semester. For others, final papers and assignments will be completed between delicious meals, heated family debates, and watching football.

Whether you're cruising into finals after this break or still struggling with assignments, the holiday season is here and that means food, family and more food.

I asked UNC students what their plans are for Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving break. Here's what they had to say:

Courtney Gilbert

Sophomore, exercise and sports science major from Charlotte, NC

"So, our recent Thanksgiving tradition is for us to go over to my cousin's house -- my cousin on my mom's side. We, essentially work it like a pot-luck, so everyone brings something and we have this kitchen full of food. Everybody in my family can cook, somehow, they just can. So, we have all this amazing food. I make mac-and-cheese; we'll have everything. So, that's my plan for this year. Then, after we stuff our faces, we'll usually play board games or something."

Jessica Hardison

First-year, PR and political science major from Asheboro, NC

"Well, we usually go down to my grandma's house in Kinston (NC), but this year she is actually going to come up to our house and spend the holidays with us. So, we don't have to travel as much which is great on me because I'm stressed out. I'm looking forward to the break. I don't know of anything I have to have done by Tuesday, but I have a whole lot due after the break. So I will be working over Thanksgiving."

Maiya Peterson

Sophomore, environmental science major from Fort Collins, CO

"I'll be (staying) in Chapel Hill (for Thanksgiving). We usually go visit family friends in Indiana, but this year our friends won't be there. My family is really spread out -- from Seattle to Michigan to North Carolina to Indonesia -- so it would be hard to get us all together. My grandma lives in Chapel Hill. My dad and brother are coming here. My mom has to work, my other two sisters are going to friend's places and my other brother is staying with his wife. I plan on spending time with family."

Tyler Brown

Sophomore, geography major from Asheboro, NC

"(On Thanksgiving day) we usually go to eat with my mom's side of the family in Liberty, North Carolina. But, we're doing it for lunch this year, which is weird because we've never done it for lunch before. I don't have a lot of work due before Thanksgiving break, but I do have a lot of work due after, so I'll probably be working, reading and getting ready for finals."

Anushri Adhia

Senior, computer science major from Mooresville, NC

"So for break, my family and I are driving up to Pennsylvania to spend it with some family friends. It's a group of four or five families and we just rotate houses every year. This year, it's our friends in Pennsylvania's turn to host, so we're going up there. I usually have a lot of work to do, but for the past couple of years, I just kind of throw it out the window and enjoy Thanksgiving."

Happy Thanksgiving, Tar Heels. LDOC is just around the corner.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
