Girl Power

This topic has been on my mind a lot the past few days and it has a positive meaning to it, so I figured what not raise awareness of "girl power."

1. Meredith Grey from Grey's Anatomy

When I think of Meredith Grey, I think of a warrior. If you're an avid Grey's Anatomy fan like I am, then you know exactly how much tragedy Meredith has experienced. She's been through more than most people have in a lifetime, despite being a fictional character. No matter what the odds are, she always comes out on top. Plus now she's the chief of General Surgery and a key member on the board of staff. That's pretty awesome if you ask me.

2. Christina Yang from Grey's Anatomy

Cristina Yang is another powerful woman on Grey's Anatomy. What I admire most about her is that despite how much she loved Owen Hunt, she never let him hold her back in her career. The scene above from season 8 conveys that message clearly.

3. Olivia Pope from Scandal

Olivia Pope is one of those female characters that knows what she wants and doesn't give up until she gets exactly that. She's an excellent crisis manager and even assists in many White House matters, often firsthand to the president himself. That's definitely some power right there.

4. Annalise Keating from How To Get Away With Murder

Annalise Keating is such a badass and that's what I love most about her. She's not afraid to push her students to the breaking point and never lets anyone else in her firm control her. You go girl!

5. Callie Jacobs from the Fosters

Callie Jacobs is a female character many teens can relate to. She had a rough childhood growing up in the foster care system, but ended up becoming adopted along with her brother Jude and turned her life around. Now she advocates for those in the foster care system who are afraid to use their voices in the hopes that something similar can happen to them.

6. Regina Mills from Once Upon A Time

Last but not least on my list is Regina Mills. She was an evil queen for so long and she committed wicked acts, but thanks to her son Henry and close friends, she found her way to the light. This shows that there can be good in a person amongst all the darkness.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
