Strength of the Father

"But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed." Isaiah 53:5

Strength of the Father
Ben Bartel

If you were to walk up to my father and talk to him for two seconds you can see how strong he is. I have seen my father cry a grand total of two times in my life. The first time was when we first moved to Boston. I was super young and don't remember that time as clearly as the second. The second time I ever saw my father cry was when we lived in Arizona. I remember that day like it was yesterday. It was a Tuesday morning, I was in the kitchen and then the phone rang. My middle-school self, jumped for the phone wondering who it might be. I looked at the caller ID and instantly my heart sank. I picked up the phone to my grandmother bawling. I heard my father pick up the phone in his bedroom. I then put the phone down and started to cry. No words were said, but I knew my great-grandpa had died. I walked into my parent’s room to see how they were. I looked directly at my father, his face was in his pillow and he was bawling. This hit me hard, like I said before, this was only the second time I had ever seen him cry. Seeing my father like that hit me hard, watching your idol break down and ball his eyes out hurts. Y’all, this is how our Heavenly Father feels every time we sin. That's so tough to swallow, but it's so true. He's cramming his face into a pillow and bawling his eyes out. May this be a reminder to us that we are nothing and HE is everything. Jesus spent 40 days in the desert without giving into sin or temptation. Jesus was tempted with everything and he overcame it. May this be a reminder to us that we CAN go 40 seconds without falling into sin. No matter how much pain we make our FATHER endure he is always there for us. HE had nails driven into his hands and thorns pierced his skull. "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed." Isaiah 53:5. We are not worthy of the strength of our FATHER. No matter what you are going through, know that JESUS has overcome it and can rescue you. Don’t be afraid to run back to the FATHER arms open wide. Our FATHER is stronger than any other. HE moves mountains for us and we take it for granted. Every person reading this needs to know that I am praying for them and praying that they strive to seek out the Father and his unfailing love!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
