A Stream Of Thoughts About Spring Concert Performer Waka Flocka Flame
Anna Kane

When it was announced that Waka Flocka Flame and his resident DJ, DJ Whoo Kid, would be performing at my college's spring concert a few weeks ago, I had absolutely no idea what to expect. As someone who really only listens to rap music by Drake and occasionally Kendrick Lamar, I (still) only know one of Waka's hits ("No Hands"), and I knew I was in for a surprise. (For those curious, Mount Holyoke News reports that he also performed "Round of Applause," "50K," "O Let's Do It," and "Grove St. Party.")

Here's a review of Waka's $300,000, energetic performance at Mount Holyoke College from the random texts I sent and the thoughts I had during the concert, from the moment I stepped inside the very warm venue wearing denim short shorts and a black bodysuit to the lights coming up.

Waka Flocka Flame amongst the crowd at Mount Holyoke College

Wait, why is he performing here again?!

He cost howwww much!?

Hey look he's finally on stage!!!

I have no idea what the f*** he's saying.

He's very good at jumping. Damn. I will jump too.

I AM SO SWEATY.

Where did he go??

OMGG HE'S IN THE CROWD.

WOW HE IS SO TALLLLL.

AND ALSO VEGAN, LIKE HALF THIS SCHOOL!!!

**Flock over to wherever he happens to move in the crowd, unintentionally creating a moshpit**

(At this point I figured I should try to document how close I was to the performer himself, but the crowd was so intense I couldn't even get my phone out of my back pocket as people stepped on my toes.)

OMGGGG I JUST TOUCHED WAKA FLOCKA FLAME.

WOAHHH HE IS BACK ON STAGE.

I STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING.

HE IS JUMPING AGAIN. A LOT.

I WILL ALSO JUMP. A LOT.

OMG IT'S "NO HANDS."

**Sings along to every word**

"Girl the way you're moving, got me in a trance--"

I don't know what this song is. Again.

I'm going to jump like Waka. Everyone else is doing it.

Where did he go??

It's only 11pm! He still has another hour to perform!!

Everyone is leaving. The lights are on. I should probably go.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
