How Love Creates And Destroys Worlds: An Original Short Story

In the beginning, the world wasn’t born from an all-engulfing sea or a chaotic purple abyss, but it was a dichotomy of two nations. One nation was strong, resourceful and ambitious, and the other nation was equally strong with its chivalry and determination. These were the kingdoms of Dark and Light. They were inseparably intertwined; The sun couldn't shine without the darkness, and there were no shadows without the presence of light. Though there was no competition or ill-will between the two nations, yet they would never mingle no matter what. The world was too young to differentiate between demons and gods; however day and night and shadow and light were distinctly split.

However, word had spread that the youngest of seven princesses from the kingdom of Light had fallen madly in love with the heir-prince of the kingdom of Dark. Every dusk she would leave a single kiss on the empty night sky, which would marble into a softly humming star. In the most beautiful field of sanguine daisies, she would muse about her prince, as he peeked on his lazy midnight clouds at her through the stars that cracked his pitch-black kingdom.

Soon the world began to marvel at the bedazzled sky, much like the lovers, marveled at each other's souls. This made the denizens of the white world envious of their counterpart nation. Yet, it was the fiercest light, the Mother Sun, that grew jealous of her daughter's creation. Mother Sun, in her attempts to stop the sky from more blistering and stealing her acclaim, gave her a daughter an iridescent gray thread to connect the two lovers. The light princess tied one end to her right hand and sent the other end with a pure-white dove that gave it to a chirpy raven who it tied it to the left hand of the prince of Dark. Instantly, the charcoal sand around the prince was inscribed with the word "love" in circles around him. Similarly, the glossy white marble floors around the princess inscribed "evol." With time the lovers shared words, thoughts and emotions so filled with desire for one another turned the gray thread, in a world of black and white, to a crimson blood red.

They held on to each other by that red string. As he sat on the shores of a thunderous pitch-black ocean, gently floating on a grimy charcoal cloud, and as she sat on the glossy marble floor of her castle surrounded by a train of gently humming dandelion spores, this red string made them frenzied with desire for one another. Soon they were overwhelmed with the need to be one soul for a time outside eternity. This want pierced them deeper than any wound and was clearer than any crystal. They fought and fought against their own kingdom to break the boundary between the two nations, but all this did was make the line hazy but still not passable. Overbrimming, for what seemed to be eons for the two lovers, the Prince of Dark summoned all his clouds and made a clap of thunder still reverberating through the ground today. In that millisecond, the world tumbled into chaos. In that millisecond, he made an evanescent split in the sky. In that millisecond, the princess of Light ran through the sky to her lover- she turned into a thunderbolt. She did not slow down even as she was Lightning when she reached the Prince. And when they touched it was a warm dawn. In the dawn, when beginnings and endings couldn't be made, and there was no line between light and dark. It was in this moment that the world was shattered and the two began to fuse. And in this transient form, together, they broke out into color. Vibrant streams, not just of a rainbow, but of every color imaginable feverishly ran from their bodies. It moved like wildfire through the entire universe- giving every substance its own unique color illuminated by light and accentuated by the dark. The world stood still, as the two nations were no more since there were no more just two colors. Each eye, thought, and tooth had its own color, and in this individuality, a nation whole was formed.

Colors were still bursting at the seams of this union. When the lovers completely fused, bending time and space - suddenly the Prince of Dark recoiled. With a blood-curdling shout, he pushed the Princess of Light away from him. For at that moment, their souls had become one, and they could see each and every nook and cranny of each other. She saw undying eternal love for her charm, wit and heart, while he saw a strong, unyielding desire for the kingdom he offered her. During this shocking split, the princess could see years of hard-work and struggle melt away before her. Then she turned to stone; her body and soul forever embedded in the dark sky as a lonely white gravestone in a pitch-black sky that we people now call 'the moon.' Sadly, the prince and the princess didn't know what was worse: to be broken or to break another soul.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
