There seems to be a sort of standard set by the industry 20 years ago that only males over the age of 13 are allowed to play video games. However, this isn't true, especially in the modern day where companies are trying to break said stereotypes. People still call each other names over the game and party chat.

As much as I hate "squeakers" (kids with really high pitched voices that play games way above their maturity rating), it needs to stop. These are kids who are playing video games they enjoy, and that's what matters. If you're bothered by their loud, high-pitched voices, most games feature a mute option. Utilize it. There's no need to throw insulting names their way. Most of them are immature and highly sexist. Unless I personally know them, I don't take any chances and hit the mute button right away.

Let's head on to "Gamer Girls." Guess what, they don't exist. They're just girls who like to play games, like any other gamer. There doesn't need to be a special term for them. In fact, let's talk more about this. Guys of all ages act really stupid when they find out that someone that they game with is a female. Countless times in a party chat I've heard as young as little kids and as old as some older teens sexually harass females. The younger generation of gamers tends to harass them by telling them to go make something for them in the kitchen. Some of the older teenage gamers tend to make sexual jokes and make the females uncomfortable (unless they laugh it off or laugh along, which I see in some cases). Not all males do this, but I've seen a few shining examples.

You don't see this too often, but the gamers who are above the age of 35 are usually screamed and disrespected by the younger generation while in-game. Older teens aren't as guilty of this, as they are more mature, but some still exist.

No matter what generation you are, you can't just go around and throw stereotypes and slurs at other gamers. Live in peace. Coexist.

Speaking of, this whole "console wars" crap needs to stop. Don't insult someone just because they have a certain console that you don't like. I get it, there's the friendly console war joshing between friends. That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about aggressive insults being thrown at other people on online forums. I'm talking about the "PC Master Race" going away, and creating the world where console, PC, and mobile gamers live in peace.

Gamers. People on the outside use this term to separate us from the rest of society, for whatever reason. We are no different than any other person just because we prefer a different method of entertainment. Some people like watching and/or playing sports, some people have hobbies such as drawing or writing, and then there're people who enjoy playing video games. We are no different from everyone else. All we want is peace.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
