20 year old Nathan Zed, a popular social media star and small business owner, has taken an innovative and beautiful approach to promoting the 'Good Enough' clothing line for his company DFTBA.
While we normally associate soundtracks with movies or mix-tapes, Nathan, or 'The Third Pew' (his online alias), has decided to introduce a "musical accompaniment" to his clothing comprised of specifically chosen songs.
"GOOD ENOUGH " is a four part musical story with complementary visuals for each segment edited together by Nathan himself.
Yes. You read that right. It's happening.
While we're still waiting for 3/4 of the project, the first installment is nothing short of INCREDIBLE.
PART 1: HONEY is a 16 song masterpiece featuring Grammy nominated Childish Gambino, Tyler, the Creator, Kehlani, and Daniel Caesar, upcoming artists like Smino and The Internet, as well as icons like Michael Jackson and OutKast, takes the listener through an auditory experience that is basically, in the best way I can describe it, orgasmic. It blends crossover R&B, soul, and alternative hip-hop with strong vocals, soothing beats, and an overall smooth and silky vibe (hence the name..."HONEY"). The transitions between songs help create the overall flow of a story, but the playlist can be enjoyed chronologically or randomly.
The lyrics focus primarily on love, personal relationships, and appreciating the beauty of this life we're all a part of, but they are also notably positive in nature which relates almost perfectly to the 'Good Enough' message which Zed promotes through his designs. For those who follow Zed on Youtube, he posted a video in December of 2016 titled, ""You're Not Good Enough" in which he uses humor to talk about his struggle with depression and constant feeling of 'not being good enough'. Half a year later, around the six year anniversary of his channel, he responded with another video, "You Actually Are Good Enough", introducing his clothing line and giving an update to his mental state. Zed sees the message of 'good enough' as a reminder to "relax" and "to feel good", which he continues to address with this new musical story. Of Ethiopian decent, he's also a known advocate for diversity. All the models for his clothes are people of color, and most of the artists on his playlist are too.
The music is fantastic, but the visual art he compiled is beautiful as well. Without giving too much away, ...he compiles a myriad of clips from different romantic and dramatic films set to an Italian love song, and the result is...well...let's just say it's 61 seconds of your life you won't regret. You can see the video that has thousands in their deepest feels here.
Nathan's impressive sense of aesthetic is something you don't want to miss, and his message is an important one, especially now in a time where current events are almost always negative, money's tight, and finals are upon us and we need to remember to take care of our mental health too.
Be on the lookout for the next three parts of the story in the upcoming weeks and make sure you check out the clothing which inspired the project in the first place.
You can listen to the soundtrack story on Apple Music or Spotify.
