Why You Need To Stop Using The Sarahah App Right Now

As many of you know, there is a new app flooding social media called Sarahah. Sarahah allows you to make a personal account where people can anonymously type messages to you. The person receiving the message has no idea who sent the message and is unable to comment back to the message.

Although it says “Leave a constructive message :)” at the top of the text box, many people are not. This app is being used for modern-day cyber-bullying. People are getting behind their phone screens and hurting each other with their words daily. Many people then screenshot the hurtful words and post the picture on Facebook or Snapchat for others to see.

This has got to stop.

Why are we hiding behind a screen to bully others?

Why are we even bullying at all?

Imagine this: You get the app and make an account where you hope to receive compliments and advice. A few minutes later you post to Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram telling people to comment. **Ding, Ding, Ding.**Wow, now you feel very popular. You just got new notifications from your Sarahah app. So, you go into the app and read what they're saying. You see:

- You're beautiful (wow, that was nice)

- You're nice to talk to (awwww, thanks!)

but then...

- You're a hoe.

- Everyone knows what you did to Chad the night after the party Friday. You're such a slut.

- You should stop eating, no one likes elephants.

These are real examples of messages that have been sent using this app. People use this social media outlet to hurt others in a way that makes them look innocent. How would you feel if you received one of these messages and had NO idea who it came from?

We live in a world full of hate, anger, and violence. Creating and using an app that promotes this wrong behavior is embarrassing. If you feel the need to vent your inconsiderate and inappropriate comments to someone else, please be mature enough to confront them about it in person. Do not be the person who types a belittling paragraph to someone, while hiding behind technology.

This app has to be stopped. The use of this app has been taken out of control and eventually this app can and will be the cause of teen suicides.

Instead of using this app, take the time to text someone a compliment, buy the person's food behind you in the drive thru, send an encouraging message to someone struggling. There are many things that can promote peace and unity in this world, but this Sarahah app is NOT one

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
