In the wake of another celebrity hospitalization (and thankfully, that was all it was). In the wake of overdoses of Lil Peep and Carrie Fisher, we are reminded of the utter lack of privacy that celebrities face in their industry.
In the rush to publish an article before anyone else, Demi Lovato's representative was forced to squash the falsehood that Demi had overdoses on heroin and even after that, multiple articles were published, speculating over what had caused the overdose, or even suggesting that meth could have been the cause of the overdose.
There will be the wave of the usual well-wishes and hotlines and cries to seek help and symptom checkers and on and on it goes.
American pop culture would rather rush for the clicks, than talk about the harsh reality of the matter.
The ever-increasing public eye under social media, combined with fame itself can contribute to tragedies like this.
Mental health and addiction are delicate issues and it is all too easy to fall backward down the hill and have to start all over again. And with easy access to drugs, whether it be money or proximity, combined with the pressure of Hollywood fame, Demi Lovato has already publicly struggled with an eating disorder, bipolar disorder, and drug addiction all under the crushing media presences on top of Hollywood's pressure to be the perfect, ideal woman. (Whatever that means.)
Stop letting them perpetuate the issue with rumors of meth or heroin or whatever else it could potentially be. Stop adding to the diseased tumbleweed of sensationalism that plagues artists in Hollywood. Because, while they are people who are heavily in the public eye, artists are just people who are equally prone to succumbing to their own inner demons.
We are lucky to still have Demi in this world, and we have to remember her own life whenever we click on an article or a comment that chooses sensationalism over truth. Demi Lovato almost lost her life because of the propaganda machine, and its time to stop contributing to it.
I wish her the very best in the coming days and send her thoughts of support and love.
