I'm sure you have all heard John Lennon's song "Imagine" before. It is truly a powerful, moving piece of art. Its lyrics and beautiful piano make it a haunting statement of a song. However, I do have one question.
For those of you unfamiliar with the song, John Lennon is essentially telling people to imagine a life without religions, borders and possessions. Regardless of how you feel about the song, I honestly think Lennon's point to the whole song wasn't condemning those things. Instead, he was wishing more people would look beyond those things that hang us up and stop us from treating people like people.
Taking that idea, I am left with one question about the matter. When can we stop imagining a world like that? Sure, world peace is a rather impossible dream, but how close can we get to it? Why is it so hard to move on from the small details about someone and try and accomplish tasks as civilized people? I feel like there is so much hostility toward other people anymore. Is it a topic that is wishy-washy and beaten to death? Sure, and maybe it was always there and with news able to travel to anyone at anytime seemingly instantaneously, it is just magnified. That being said, it seems like animosity is at an all time high.
I get it, the world will never be free of all of its problems. I don't know if I would want to live in a world that is chaos-free. Without chaos, life would be too easy and boring. But I feel as though there is too much unnecessary trouble, and it just raises the question of when can we stop imagining and start living a little more peaceful.
