When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Do you focus on the beautiful things about you, like your smile or eyes? Or do you pick out your flaws, your stretch marks or freckles? I know for myself, when I look in the mirror, the first things I start picking out are all my flaws. I find the reason I'm so hard on myself and how I look is that of the stunning women on social media. Women on social media look the same with their perfect skin, perfect bodies, and no flaws to be seen. They push their health products on us through their Instagrams, even though most of these women have teams whose only purpose is to make them look flawless, like their many personal trainers, makeup artists, and trainers.
Body image seems so important and it makes most of us worry about how we look when we leave the house. Our confidence is cut by girls we see in public or the ones on our television who seem to have the perfect bodies. Bodies have changed over time. Women are expected to be curvy but not obese. We are expected to have large posteriors with tiny waists, thanks Kardashians.
But it's becoming the time we start loving who is in the mirror. Giving ourselves, as well as others, confidence in their own skin, and here's how. Start by complimenting yourself, notice your physical and personality qualities that make you beautiful. Feed your body what makes you feel good. Wear what makes YOU feel good, not what is trendy. Don't put you or your body down, we are all different and that's what makes us ourselves.
It's heartbreaking watching beautiful women tear themselves about because they don't look like the girls on Instagram, the girls who are photoshopped and edited to look that way to gain followers. Every flaw one believes they have is what makes them beautiful. What one hates about themselves, another loves. So accept yourself and your beauty.
