I Fled Back Into The Darkness (Short Story)
Weston Sharpensteen
I fled back into the darkness because it was too bright outside, and I hadn’t any sunglasses.
It’s a spectacular day however. The birds are chirping, and the kids are playing in the middle of the street. The “salesman” who wants to con some ignoramus is walking from house to house with a smile. It’s a great day to be alive! But here I am, in the dimly lit indoors.
5 year old Mary-Jane Suzy threw her ball at the street, and proceeded to run and grab it. But all of a sudden, a speeding oil truck hits Mary and violently throws her body, ending her life. The brakes of the truck fail, and it goes skidding and spiraling down to the pavement. Everyone outside either burned to death, or suffered minor boo-boos due to the wreck.
And so, I continue to flee to the darkness, because I still have no sunglasses, it’s still very bright, and everything is on fire.
