Dear STEM Majors,

First of all, thank you for assisting with the way the world operates; without science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, we would be unable to create novel inventions that make life easier, develop a greater understanding of human health, or make discoveries in nature. The countless hours you spending memorizing, applying, and experimenting all result in a very important lens to view the world through; if we did not have that lens, then the world would not be as advanced and explanations would be lost.

STEM majors are extremely important for the human race to continue excelling.

Those who are brave enough to dive into the highly intimidating fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics should develop a strong sense of pride; after all, these people are working with the brains who can comprehend incredibly complex notions and sometimes prove some for the very first time. Thus, the entire world commends you for exhibiting relentless hard work and dedication to these grueling fields.

Your chosen field of study in the realm of STEM is challenging. Somedays, probably more often than you would prefer, you wonder if this is even the right field for you in the first place. Difficulties are bound to arise in any situation, especially in some of the most intense fields to study; do not let challenges or setbacks discourage you.

When you feel like you are suffocating under the enormous workload, remember why you started in the first place. Can you recall what inspired you to make the decision to be a STEM major? Do you remember the invigorating passion that pushed you to get this far? Well, conjure those same feelings to continue persevering forward. And if you can't remember why you started, perhaps you can easily envision your end goal. The world needs STEM majors to contribute to the advancement of medicine, the development of infrastructure, the creation of technology, and much, much more.

So, next time that you feel yourself entirely engulfed by a huge STEM major workload, do not give up. Remember that the tough times will occur, but you will also get through them. After all, the outcome for doing so will definitely be worth it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
