Now, I'm not here to say that V-Day is good or bad, I'm just here to say that enjoying it looks different for some people. We may be a few weeks out from the big day, but there are some things we need to start talking about, so we don't go making mistakes.
Valentine's Day does NOT have to be about an S/O. In fact, many people just take the day as a way to celebrate people in their lives that raise them up day-to-day. If you're single this V-Day, fear not. You can celebrate with your besties or you could spend some time with family and thank them for their (sometimes overwhelming) support.
All the single people put your hand up and vow not to do the following!
There tends to be a panicked moment of loneliness for us single people and this is where the big mistakes happen. We feel the need to rely on one person or try to force a relationship where we know there shouldn't be one. For me, this resulted in re-runs of the same toxic relationship. It might make it a few months, but the ending is always messy. Tis the season to stay away from exes who will inevitably leave more scars than happy memories. It's also time to not be selfish by going to the fallback person. Unavoidably we all have one person we know cares for us in a way where a relationship is what they want, but we have said no over and over. When you're lonely this holiday season, don't go breaking this person's heart by giving them false senses of hope because you want plans on Valentine's Day.
For those of you out there who are lucky enough to have found the one – we applaud you and wish you the best! However, I've got some advice for you too.
In the heat of this season, we begin seeing the romantic scenes from the movies and imagining our perfect V-Day in our minds. This is probably NOT how your day will go. The trick to a special day is to just plan to cherish the time with one another more than any material gift you could receive. If you can make the most of the moment just talking and laughing, you've already won the day! Then, anything else that happens is an added bonus.
If you don't have an S/O and your backup plans fell out, do NOT stress it! There is one person that will always be there for you to cherish and that person is you! Although sometimes it may feel like your mind is working against you and things don't go as planned, you have always been there for you. Your mind is working day in and day out to solve problems and bring you to new heights. Your body works for you every day too. It breathes for you, keeps your heart beating for you and this body has gone through a hell of a lot through the years. It may have needed Band-Aids and little fixes along the way, but it is doing its best for you. So, take your free time and paint your nails, run a bath, sing in the shower, cook a mean meal, and RELAX. Reward yourself today for being here.
So, this V-Day appreciate everyone you know, don't fall into something toxic just for the glory of one day, don't expect the most extravagant day of your life, and take care of you!
