When it comes to staying full in college, everything is either feast or famine. One morning you may walk into the cafeteria and find that they have all of your favorite things: plenty of fruit, biscuits, pancakes, cereals, you name it. In these instances, you would totally stock up, filling your plate once or even twice because the selection is so good. On other mornings, though, you may enter the cafeteria and find that they really have nothing you want. That is not to say that there is no food, just things that you don't like or normally eat.
This is when you are left to scramble around looking desperately for food in your dorm room. Maybe you know that a particular office on campus usually has muffins in the morning, or you run to the pub hoping that you have enough credits on your ID for the semester to get food, or maybe you just make yourself some year-old instant oatmeal and hope for the best. It is hard to keep track of the number of times that I have seen kids going through the very long cafeteria lines just to get a plate full of one thing.
College kids are picky. There is no going around that, but we also just want to eat. A lot. So whether you find yourself ordering delivery food at off hours (those poor Domino's guys are here at like 9 a.m.) or actually resorting to leave campus to scope out your food options, it is a daily ordeal. Because living in a dorm room without a kitchen in the building can get rough. Sometimes you have to resort to some pretty weird cooking techniques just to avoid the walk to the cafeteria.
For example, cooking "chicken parm" in a dorm room with only a microwave is more like boiling really gummy pasta, straining it with a towel and then putting microwaved chicken patties on top. It definitely doesn't seem like much, but after you have spent 30 minutes making it, you really have to be proud of it. No matter the ways that you are getting your daily calories at college, make sure that you are taking care of yourself and getting what you need. Even if it means running around at odd hours in search of something that you really want to eat.
