College is the pivotal time of any young adult's transition and development into the real world. College is a place to make friends, experience new things, and work towards a great job (hopefully) after college. However, there are many ways that the purpose of college can become distorted and a student can become easily distracted. There are a few key ways to stay focused throughout your college journey, and hopefully still have fun.
Make sure to limit your number of friendships. Yes, you heard me right. LIMIT your number of friendships. For most, college is the perfect place to make an abundance of new friendships because of the (usually) large amount of diversity and opportunities for friendships to be formed. Quite unexpectedly, large amounts of friends can easily overtake your academic focus and leave you with poor study habits. Make friends that will seamlessly coordinate with your school schedule, meaning friends in similar classes as you, so that you can form study groups and learn information together. This is the best way to insure that your academics remain up to par and that you still maintain a healthy social life.
Secondly, the most important thing you can do to stay focused in college is to have a healthy sleep schedule. When you're invited to weekend parties that last till 3 AM, this is a sure way to through off a healthy sleep schedule for most of the week. In addition, pulling all-nighters in a desperate attempt to save a grade in a difficult class is not the way to go. Instead, make sure to revolve all night-time activities around your sleep schedule. Go to bed at exactly the same time every night, and make sure to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night. Sleeping in your 9 AM class is not the way to stay focused!
