The next step to the adult life.

So it's your big day! Your first step into adult life. You're on your own now. I know what it is like so I'm going to give you a few tips on what I did and learned my freshman year of college.

1. If you’re staying on campus, decorate your dorm room.

You're going to be away from home for a while and it might be a bit hard. So decorate your new room with things from home. Make it look snazzy. Put up pictures of mom, dad, brothers, sisters etc. Poster are also nice to put up around the room too. Also you might even find it nice to color coordinate your room too.

2. Don't procrastinate on your assignments.

This was one of the worst mistakes I made my freshman year. I started off doing so well and then I started slacking off and doing assignments at the last minute. Trust me, it will only stress you out more. In college, you have to meet certain deadlines or else you won't be able to turn in the assignment at all or make it up. It isn't like high school where you will get points off every day it’s late. There is none of that in college. It’s either on time or a big fat F. There were times where I had to spend nights staying up until 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. in the morning making sure my assignment were turned in on time.

3. Join clubs and activities

This is the best part. I made the best of friends joining this ministry club at my college called Cru. We not only did worship but we talked about things that we are going through and got advice. Also we even went out to eat to place like Sonic's and went to museums, skating, and the zoo and places that you can just have fun at. My favorite part about Cru was discipleship. You basically take someone under your wing and learn about each other and mentor them. I learned so much from being disciplined. Just know that if you are going through something you are never alone and God is watching over you.

4. Watch the foods that you eat or face the Freshman 15.

So the myth is every freshman gains 15 pounds during their freshman year. This was not the case for me. I gained 50 and I'm currently still trying to lose it. Please, please, please watch the foods that you eat. Try to portion it and exercise as much as you can. Sometimes, there will not be enough time for you to go to the gym as much as you want but you can always do workouts wherever you are. Pushups, sit-ups, jumping jacks etc.

Well I hope that my experiences and tips helped a bit and that you have a great freshman year of college and I wish you all the best!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
