Start Your New Year With This Promise

A happy and healthy New Year is not just a saying, and here's how to know it's possible.

I'd like to think of myself as a pretty relaxed individual. I don't believe in stressing myself out too much during high pressured situations and I don't like to get involved in anything or anyone that is associated within any kind of drama or negativity on a regular basis. Following in suit has allowed me to lead a life that I can honestly say I'm pretty content with, and maybe you can too.

In order to maintain such a lifestyle, I've found these instructions to be quite useful:

First off, remember that you are the one that controls your life. It is a choice of yours to befriend and hang out with a particular group of people, and if you realize at some point that being around this particular behavior is having an effect on the way you're feeling mentally and acting out externally, well then, I think it's time for a change. Any social group that makes you feel uncomfortable or just not yourself is most definitely not the group for you, and it's best to realize this as soon as you start to get these uneasy feelings.

Next, it's important to realize that stressful situations and tough times do not last forever. Whether you have a lot of work due by a certain date or you're stressing thinking about how you have to attend an interview or the first meeting of an organization you've joined, realize that all of that passes over at some point, faster than you might even think, so make the most of something small because it eventually becomes a speck on the time spectrum that is your life.

Now I'm not saying that I'm absolutely perfect and I do a great job of stressing over nothing, but this is about the little things. The little things that come and go in life should not be dwelled upon, at least not as harshly as maybe something more major and life-changing that occurs to you. Even then, take those experiences and channel it into hard work and perseverance to get you where you want to go. Never give up because that stress and fear will only weigh you down.

Finally, try to remain optimistic and allow joy into your life. Negatively thinking about the future or even whatever's happening in the current situation you're in leaves no room for growth or any kind of enjoyment. This kind of mindset also coincides with you always feeling frustrated and not relaxed. Be sure to keep your mind open and accepting, especially to the many new things that you're sure to encounter throughout the year.

Here's to hoping your 2018 can be your greatest year yet.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
