Stages Of Going To A Concert

There's so much more to it than just showing up and listening.

Music is one of the greatest simple joys in life. It's especially wonderful when you hear it live. Concerts are a great way to support your favorite artists, hear great music, dance and just have fun! There's a bit of process in going to a concert though.

1. Buying the Ticket

"OMG (__Insert Name of Artist Here__) IS PLAYING IN TOWN!" As soon as you find out one of your favorite bands are playing, you scramble for information and a ticket. If you're lucky, it's cheap. If not, hey, it's worth it!

2. Studying the Artist's Music

If you're like my best friend and me, you have to know every song at the concert. So, you listen to all the albums, especially their new one! That way when the artist plays a new song, you can revel in your dedication to their music and sing along while everyone else listens.

3. Planning an Outfit

Days before the concert, you're planning what you're going to wear. You may even have to buy a new outfit!

4. Destroying Your Room

You're rushing because you either want to be early or you're already running late, and so you end up turning your room into a disaster with clothes, makeup, shoes, food, jewelry, you name it.

5. Waiting in Line

Luckily, my best friend and I got to the Josh Abbott Band concert early, and didn't have to wait. But I assure you I remember a different concert experience where I was in line for eternity. Waiting is just the absolute worse.

6. Emptying Your Wallet

If you're a minor, it's a surprise minor fee at the front door (sigh) or buying a plethora of drinks if you're 21. And for everyone, band t-shirts that cost $25.

7. Finding a Good Spot

If you're lucky, you'll get a spot right in front of the stage! If not, it becomes a mission to find the next best spot or try and find room at the front.

8. More Waiting

Sure, the opening band isn't bad. They're actually very talented, but you just really want to see your favorite artist! Even once the opening act is over, it'll be another 30 minutes to an hour of waiting.

9. Exploding with Excitement

At last, the main event is here and ready to rock! You can't believe you're seeing and hearing them live; it's an unreal experience.

10. Taking Pictures and Videos

Whether it's for Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram or your friend stuck at home, you begin documenting the night. Which is awesome, but make sure to live in the moment as well.

11. Having the Best Time

The artist is amazing, their stories are funny, their stage presence is great, you're singing along and dancing to every song, giggling at the drunk people and feeling your adrenaline and endorphins pulse with the beat of the drum and flow with the melody of the singer.

12. After Party

Maybe the artist is hosting a party, maybe you have a friend throwing a party afterwards or maybe you just go to IHOP. Either way, it's a great end to an even greater night.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
