In the past week, “squiggle brows” have become a trend on social media. This is where you use glue to mold and fill in your brows to form a squiggly line instead of their natural shape. The internet is not agreeing with this trend and rightfully so.
Everyone knows it is hard enough to do your brows as is. We are all way too familiar with the phrase “sisters not twins.” Whether you use Anastasia Beverly Hills dip brow or a drug store dupe, doing your eyebrows is hard enough, let alone trying to make them match. How are you supposed to make squiggly brows match?
We should all be able to experiment with makeup but we should keep it within the parameters of what we would actually wear. No one would sport squiggle brows while running errands or walking the red carpet. So, social media should stop glamourizing squiggle brows. They could work for a costume or an artsy magazine cover, but not in day-to-day life.
I think we subconsciously hate this trend because we don’t realize how important eyebrows are. How are you supposed to express how you feel? Our eyebrows can show if we are angry, concerned, or shocked. We can’t express how we feel if our brows have an expression of their own. Imagine looking at someone, like your boss, who has a serious face and squiggle brows. Are they serious or not? You can’t tell.
Trends come and go. But this one needs to go now. This year, we have seen beauty gurus apply their makeup with a condom and rip out their blackheads with charcoal masks but it should end there. We need to realize that it is okay to bring back old trends instead of coming up with new ones, especially ones that are painful to do and look at.
