10 Spooky Jams To Get You In The Mood For Halloween

"I walk around like a skeleton last night, confused and alone. Who was I kidding, I can't get past you. You are the cops, you are my student loans."

Glowing jack-o-lantern

Spooky season is here! It's time to carve pumpkins, hang up decorations, and listen to some great Halloween music. Here are some songs to jam to this October other than "The Monster Mash."

1. "Edward 40hands" by Mom Jeans

First, this song starts off with the voices of Linda, Bob, and Gene from Bob's Burgers saying to turn this band into a "lean, mean, Mom Jeans, revenge machine." Secondly, the title itself being "Edward 40hands" is enough for it to land on this Halloween playlist because now I have the need to watch "Edward Scissorhands." Thirdly, this song just sounds like fall, but that may just be me.

2. "Haunt Me (x 3)" by Teen Suicide

If you like soft indie music Teen Suicide is where it's at. Honestly, their whole "DC Snuff Film/Waste Yrself" album is qualified to make it onto this Halloween playlist. "So haunt me, haunt me, haunt me, OoO."

3. "Brickwork" by Milk Teeth

Looking for something more grungy than the songs above? Something a more pop punk? Then Milk Teeth is what you've been looking for.

4. "Two-Headed Boy" by Neutral Milk Hotel

Neutral Milk Hotel's "Two-Headed Boy" is a very different type of song than those on this playlist. Not only is it all acoustic, but their songs are often defined as psychedelic folk and you most definitely get that folk vibe here.

5. "Skeleton" by The Front Bottoms

This song is for is for all those Front Bottoms fans looking for a song that sounds upbeat on the surface until you pay attention to the lyrics and you hear the emo lyrics. "I walk around like a skeleton last night, confused and alone. Who was I kidding, I can't get past you. You are the cops, you are my student loans."

6. "Bag of Bones" by Mitski

Who doesn't love a song that starts with an accordion? It sure does a good job at sounding eerie. "Fluorescent store lights, you shine through the night Illuminate my pores and you tear me apart. Mercy on me, would you please spare me tonight? I'm tired of this searching, would you let me let go?"

7. "I Wanna Be A Witch" by Teen Suicide

What can I say? Teen Suicide is the perfect indie band for Halloween.

8. "Death At The Movies" by Car Seat Headrest

Car Seat Headrest is the epitome of low-fi with "Death at the Movies" being no exception. "The hero stands up and the blood rushes out of his head, but you can still see him breathing after he's dead and after the soul is gone, his body's back to himself, and you'll say 'Oh, who is he? I've seen him in something else.'" Nothing is creepier to me than hearing the National Anthem after the lyrics depict this scene at what I always envision to be a drive-in movie theater.

9. "Monsters" by Slaughter Beach, Dog

A Philadelphia band that most certainly has that Philly sound ingrained into them, Slaughter Beach, Dog's song "Monster" is a smooth song about a family made up by Modern Baseball's Jake Ewald. "There are monsters everywhere I turn."

10. "Thinning" by Snail Mail

There is nothing more Halloween than a song with a music video shot in a graveyard. While this song doesn't give off any Halloween vibes vocally I just couldn't let go of the scene where Lindsey Jordan just stands there playing her red guitar.

Recently I was blessed to be a counselor at a wonderful camp, secluded in a cornfield somewhere in Virginia. I consider myself to be a seasoned camp counselor, as I have not only been a camper for most of my life but have been privileged enough to work multiple camps with all kinds of different facilities. I have worked camps with multi-thousand dollar facilities, with zip lines, rock walls, ropes courses, and boats. I have worked at camps with amazing water sports, camps with paintball, camps with canoes and paddle boats and floating blobs or trampolines in the middle of the water. I have worked at camps with in ground pools and camps without any pools, and even some camps with go-karts. I've had problem kids, kids who refuse to listen to anything I say, kids who sneak out after lights out to meet a significant other, and kids who are every camp counselors dream.

The United Nations (UN) has been in existence since June of 1945. Since then, the world has come together to work on and solve some of the harshest problems that face the Human Race. Be it children in societal ills like Human Trafficking, natural issues like Deforestation, or issues of extreme poverty, the UN has worked together in an attempt to make it a better place for us all. It's the only organization in the history of the world to bring people together in a willing, peaceful way; a feat that not even the League of Nations could do in the Post- WWI era. Why was it that one organization failed, and the other one is still going strong, 72 years later?
