Got Soul?

Every day, we all wonder why we were born into this world. What is our purpose? What are we set out to do in this lifetime?

Self-help books have brought me peace and more insight. Reading them has helped to release the tensions of the world one page at a time.

I feel as if some of my questions have been answered, and because our Universe is so vast and fascinating, there's so much we have yet to learn. However, we can try to understand it more during the little time we were given.

One saying that I read that woke me up was, "We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience." Now if that doesn't make you think of how special our lives are, I'm not sure what will.

It's remarkable if you really think about it. We make friendships, have possessions, and create memories. We have the power to love and make someone smile when they're having a bad day.

We can communicate our thoughts to others and make them laugh. We are able to create the lives we want to live if we are willing to pick up the pen and write up our own stories.

But yet, some refuse to do so.

To me, it's baffling that we forget that we are souls roaming the Earth. We are living behind our masks, our shells, that we call our bodies. We have egos. Outfits. Shoes. Phones. Some stuff that wouldn't even matter to us if it weren't for our manmade values in society.

Some people carry their weight around without thinking of their purpose. Their perception of life is narrow and foggy, wondering what fast-food place they'll hit next, when their next cigarette break will be, or how many hours left until they can crack open a six-pack and watch the game.

Work, smoke, drink, shower, sleep. Repeat.

That's the cycle of life, right? WRONG! There's so much more to life than trying to cope with it.

Read more into subjects that interest you, work out more, cook, pick up a racquet, go see a movie with a friend, plant those seeds, bake cookies, stretch, bask in the sunlight, give someone a compliment, write in a journal your experiences, thoughts, and goals. Get something done!

Feel blessed. Be grateful for everything you have. Do something that uplifts you and carries you forward! Something that reminds you why you're here breathing. Something that connects you to your true self. Think of your calling.

Take advantage of all the opportunities that lie before you, and you will be full of content. There is more to life than working and doing laundry.

Once you connect to your soul, that's when life begins.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
