Space Isn't Just A Place

A poem personifying what space can mean from my point of view, and maybe what it can mean for all of you.

This piece came to me when I was thinking about what the word “space” means. It sounds silly but I feel so many different words mean different things although commonly used for one meaning. “Space” can refer to a location or time. However, I decided to personify what this word means to me other than its intended meaning. I want others who may be experiencing space, for whatever reason, to take care of themselves. Don’t feel guilty for whatever may be causing space in your life for no one is living it but you. But remember: make space only temporary; there are so many other things around you. I hope you enjoy!

Space isn’t just a place,

it’s a feeling

While it may be hard to see

Space is a thing that is felt

Ever-present and lingering

So, let them have their space

Time away to think or

Time away to feel or

Time away to create or

Time away to breathe

Space may be the stars that you see

The night sky never-ending

As it turns dreams into reality

Yet again, space isn’t just a place

Space can be pain

The uncertainty of not knowing

The unending hours of waiting

The waste less days of pacing away thoughts you hadn’t known were there

It can be the words that never came or

The moment that you lost

Space can be the sunlight

The rays that warm and color everything around you

It makes all of the fears turn into hopes

It can be the door you thought would never open

Now within your reach

It can be the smile you hoped to see or

The arms you looked for in the crowd or

The acknowledgment you waited for

It could paint stars within your own galaxy

Space can be a friend,

Never telling your secrets

Keeping your world together in only a way space can

Space can be good,

But too much can make your world isolated

Too much can make one cold

It is your prerogative to do as you please

But I ask that you take a look around you

For space is good and you deserve it too

But don’t make space all that’s left for you.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
