Recently with all the violence and shootings involving law enforcement officers, I decided to do some digging on Youtube to see what kinds of people police officers deal with on a daily basis. I came upon a video called Sovereign Citizens Getting Owned Compilation and was surprised to see how some traffic stops resulted. For example, in the video I just mentioned, an individual tried crossing through a U.S. Immigration checkpoint, refusing to answer whether he was a citizen of the United States, or not. This individual explained a lot of facts about the constitution that don't apply to him and how he had the right to travel freely wherever he, please.
Some of you might be thinking, "What? Are you serious?" Well before I go any further, some law enforcement personnel might claim these Sovereign types of individual a nuisance, but really there is a lot more to sovereign citizens, as it's a movement. First of all, what is a Sovereign citizen? Well, these types of citizens believe they're either natural, from the Earth. They believe that because they are from the Earth, none of the U.S. federal laws apply to them, however, they are subject to the same rights as any other U.S. Citizen. In other words, these types of people believe that law enforcement personnel, nor any other type of government individual has no authority over them. Now you maybe wondering if this is a concern or not, but when you really think about it, this kind of movement is similar to anarchy.
According to the FBI, Sovereign Citizens are thought to be comprising a domestic terrorist movement. The idea behind these types of individuals believing law enforcement officers have no authority over them, creates a big concern since this opens the possibility of a life-threatening situation for any officer that comes in contact with these types of citizens. Not only does this type of movement affect government personnel, but also us as a public. Since Sovereign citizens have this belief that they aren't U.S. citizens, that they are from the Earth, so the U.S. Federal Laws do not apply to them, they most like participate in illegal activities such as scams, refusing to pay taxes, as well as selling false documents.
Sovereign Citizens are individuals that shouldn't be feared, nor should we feel intimidated by. However, it is always nice to have some background information on what they believe, and most importantly to know your rights, so if there ever comes a time where you collide with one of these individuals, you won't be left dumbfounded.
