Sorority Recruitment as Told by "The Office"

The first day of sorority recruitment can be pretty crazy. You're going from house to house as a PNM or if you're inside the house you're meeting too many PNMs to even try to remember them all.

When you're recruiting the first thing you do is scan each PNM as they walk in the door and immediately start the mental first impression judgment.

As a PNM, you're freaking out about making the best first impression you can because everyone knows recruitment is about making the girls in a sorority fall in love with you. Confidence is key.

You spend months picking out the perfect dresses for each day of recruitment and the perfect Kendra Scott jewelry to match.

Between each party, actives rush around trying to fix their makeup, vote on PNMs, and stalk the next girl they're picking up on Facebook… all within 10 minutes.

Talking to PNMs can be very interesting. Often keeping a conversation going can be a struggle, but after all we're professionals at this right?

You want each PNM to feel welcome in your house, so you have to be as nice as possible, even when the PNM is rude.

As a PNM, you can get your heart broken when your favorite house releases you.

What PNMs don't know is that girls inside the house can be just as heartbroken when their rush crush doesn't love them anymore. But then it's time to move on.

You just have to tell yourself that there are even better girls that will love your sorority as much as you do. And as for those that cut your house:

When you wake up on Bid Day you're more excited than a child waiting for Santa on Christmas Eve. Merry Sratmas amirite?

You are overjoyed with your new sorority and all of the actives love you so much already. But as an active when you find out what house your ex rush crush chose you're like:

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
