We all know that getting a hold of some real food in college is nearly impossible. We all miss those home cooked meals more than anything, and the thought of Suwannee or Fresh Foods AGAIN makes our head spin. But, thankfully, nothing comes closer to home cooked meals in college than sorority kitchens. Just like anything else, in the beginning we love it but then naturally we get tired of coming to the house for every meal and eventually the routine gets to us. So how do we avoid growing tired of our meal plans?
During rush, many of the sororities bragged about the salad bar that was available every lunch and dinner which sounded like heaven to the incoming freshman and was a huge perk. Others talked about their frozen yogurt machines or snack kitchens. It sounded like absolute bliss. During the first week it was salad after salad with all the toppings and dressings it was great! The meals were (and still are) phenomenal and so well prepared. If this is all true then why in the world do we get tired of it?
After so many salads, the thought of iceberg lettuce makes me want to scream and I can’t even look at baby tomatoes the same way. Don’t get me wrong, the salad bar is great, but when you go every day, twice a day it becomes a little overbearing. The best way to avoid getting tired of the sorority meals is to not get the same thing all the time. If for lunch you had a salad then maybe switch over to extra veggies instead. Look at the upcoming menu for the week and choose the meals you like and go for those rather than just winging it and ending up with another salad if you’re not fond of the meal that night. If you're not to fond of dinner and don’t want to go out and spend money, taking a Tupperware with you to lunch is super convenient. After all you are paying for these meals, so take advantage!
Despite the repetitive routine, going to the house for meals is one of the greatest things about being in a sorority. You get to sit down with all of your sisters and catch up while eating an actual home cooked meal rather than eating in a food court or dining hall. It helps a lot with getting to know new members as well as helps new members get to know all the sisters. Spending more time at the house is always good and helps you get to know the other girls and hear about upcoming announcements in the Greek community.
