Songs That Represent My 2017

There are a lot of things that happen in 2017 and songs are a big part of that.

Songs That Represent My 2017

A lot of things happened in the 346 days so far in 2017. I have been at various highs and lows at different points in this year and I can break those points down by some of the songs that I listened to during those times.

Songs that defined my 2017:

Get Well Soon- Gnash

"When everything gets serious, I just get delirious and blue. You say you do too...I'll be your band-aid"

This is a song that my best friend showed to me in the beginning of 2017. We both have had a lot happen not only in our lives but a lot in the past few years. We have both been there for each other no matter what. Through thick and think and good and bad.

Not Broken Anymore- Blue October

"And I won't keep faking 'Cause I'm done with taking 'Cause with you I'm not broken anymore"

This is another song that my best friend (Dom) and I enjoyed about a quarter through the year. The song reminded us that we were a calm in the storm for each other. There were nights that it would be two, three, four in the morning and we would call and talk to each other for hours on end and it was just so nice to have that person I could talk to and vice versa.

Congratulations- Post Malone

"If you f**k with winning, put your lighters to the sky. How can I make sense when I got millions on my mind?"

This song defined our (me, Dom, Jada and anyone else who hung out with us) “Blue House Days”. This was from about April-May of 2017. These were when we spent most of our time together. We would spend our days and nights together and just hang out and have a good time.

Down- Marian Hill

"Are you down? Are you down? Are you d-d-down? Are you down? Are you down? Are you d-d-d-d-down?"

This was a song that was pretty popular on the radio from March-June. Whenever this song came on the radio while Jada and I were driving we would stop mid conversation, turn the song all the way up and jam out to it.

Losin Control- Russ

"Every now and then, she goes off, though. Beating on his chest like a bongo. He understands she's coming from a hurt place"

This is one of the many songs that I listen to by Russ. He is an amazing artist with amazing songs. I can listen to his songs at any time. Whether its when I’m studying, walking from class to class, driving, or hanging out with my friends.

Home- Blue October

"I can't wait to see whats around the corner, I can't wait to soar"

It was at one of my lower points in 2017 when my friend sent me this song. This is one of my favorite songs because it is just so uplifting for me and it makes me so happy when I listen to it. There were the nights that were bad where I would listen to this song on repeat for HOURS just so I would feel better. A big thing in this song is talking about being excited for the future and that really helps when I get stuck thinking about the right now.

1-800-273-8255- Logic

"I finally want to be alive, I finally want to be alive, I don't want to die today, I don't want to die"

Like I said before I had some low points in 2017 and this is another song that helped me get out of some of those slumps I would let myself get into.

Leave- Post Malone

"She said love me so I loved her, She said leave me so I left, then I went to California and I ain't never coming back"

One of the lyrics in this song says “then I went to California and I ain't coming back” Which funny thing enough in May of 2017 I flew out with my best friend to California and we were able to have an awesome adventure with taking a train from Emeryville CA to Denver CO. There were a lot of stops on the way and we definitely made a lot of memories from that trip. Some good, some bad, but nothing I would trade for the world.

These are just a few of many songs that I could choose to define my 2017. Some of them you may know and some you may not but all of the artists and songs are definitely worth checking out.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
