Songs for Your Perfect Playlist

16

I think it’s safe to say that music plays a fairly large roll in all of our lives. It can make you a little sad sometimes, but it can also make you dance around like an idiot, depending on the song. As college students most of us are in touch with the latest and greatest tunes on the market. So here’s a short list of some great songs for you to put on your next playlist for parties, road-tripping, etc. You’d better put on your dancing shoes before downloading these songs because you’re gonna want to get jiggy with it after you finish reading this.

1.      I’m going to start with the crowd favorite, “TURN DOWN FOR WHAT” by Lil Jon. I put that in all caps so that you would scream it in your head like Lil Jon as you read it. It’s almost impossible to listen to this song and not yell the words at the top of your lungs. I have yet to hear it come on the radio and NOT watch everyone around me suddenly turn into dancing fools. It’ll get your blood pumping, my friends.

2.      Beyonce’s “XO.” It may not be the number one song off of her most recent self-titled album, but it’s a keeper for sure. It kind of sounds like the type of song that would be played during the ending scene of a majestic movie. Save this one for the end of your playlist. It’ll for-sure end your night on a good note as Beyonce’s angelic voice moves through the air, putting everyone on cloud nine.

3.      “Timber” by Ke$ha and Pitbull is also worth a little of your time. Now I realize that a lot of people seem to be anti-Pitbull, for reasons that are totally understandable. However, in his defense, this song is pretty darn catchy and he doesn’t even throw around “dale” or “calle ocho”. Brownie points for Pitbull for finally thinking out of the box a little. Also, this is Ke$ha’s first song in quite a while and I think we should all salute her totally fantastic comeback.

4.      “The Monster” by Eminem and Rihanna shouldn’t be overlooked when you’re looking for some good music either. Although this one has been out on the market for a while now, it hasn’t quite lost its charm and undeniably likeable rhythm. I think 8 Mile left us all with an unconditional love for Eminem and all of his songs. So naturally, “The Monster” is a hit that we should readily add to our repertoire of awesome dancing songs.

5.      Avicci’s “Wake Me Up” still has us all singing along as well. I feel like this song was made for college students in the midst of their education, making bad decisions every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night without remorse, living life on the edge until we’re finally “wiser and older.” Avicci really knows what he’s talking about. To be honest I’m not really sure what kind of dancing is necessary for this tune, but I can’t deny that I get an urge to start moving whenever it comes on. You all shouldn’t deny that urge either.

When it comes to whipping up a good batch of dancing songs for your next occasion, you really can’t go wrong with these songs. Everyone knows them, which means you can almost guarantee your friends will sing along and dance their little hearts out to these amazing tracks. Have fun everybody.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
