8 Best Songs Of The Summer
Averie Woodard

The key to hosting a successful get together or a lively car ride is having the ultimate summer playlist. With an abundance of funky tunes that make us break out our killer dance moves and obnoxious singing voices, we are guaranteed to have a summertime filled with satisfying memories. Being the huge music fanatic that I am, people can always catch me streaming my Spotify playlists or jamming to the radio while driving. With that being said, check out a few of my favorite summertime tunes (so far) that will spread nothing but the greatest of vibes.

1. “Better” by Lil Yachty and Stefflon Don

With a reggae vibe and some meaningful lyrics, this song is perfect for the summertime. Essentially, this song stresses the importance of not settling less for than what you deserve, not just romantically, but during life in general. Plus, Lil Yachty’s voice is pleasant and soothing in this song, and this track definitely stands out amongst the rest of the songs he has created in the past.

2. “Slide” by Calvin Harris, Frank Ocean and Migos

All three of the artists that have collaborated on this track already have already reached success as individual artists. However, this collaboration is one to definitely check out for this summer. Personally, I have been a Frank Ocean fan for quite some time, so when he released his new album Blonde last year, I was ecstatic. Now that he has continued dropping various singles of his own or working with other artists, his talent really deserves to be recognized. Plus, I love how Calvin Harris music makes you want to dance 24/7!

3. “Rolling” by Calvin Harris, Future and Khalid

To be honest, this song is my guilty pleasure. Once again, Calvin Harris creates some incredible beats throughout the entire course of this song. Khalid has one of the most angelic and satisfying voices that I have ever heard within the music industry, making him one of my all-time favorite artists.

4. “Told You So” by Paramore

Paramore is making a comeback, especially with this brand new single off of their newly released album! In the past, this group has catered to the pop-punk and teen angst phase that many pre-teens went through. However, this song has more of a funky and retro vibe to it, making it super upbeat.

5. “Malibu” by Miley Cyrus

Apparently 2017 is the “comeback year,” and Miley Cyrus has joined that song. With her new hit single, Miley Cyrus sings her way through a story of romance. This tune gives off beachy vibes and would be perfect to listen to while lounging on the beach.

6. "8TEEN" by Khalid

Like I mentioned before, Khalid has a voice that is truly one-of-a-kind. Being an uprising star within the music industry, Khalid has cultivated an incredible album, resulting in a huge fan base! This song is on his debut album, and it is definitely one of the most upbeat tracks on there.

7. “That’s What I Like” by Bruno Mars

Even though this song is already regularly played on the radio, it is definitely something catchy. With the unique vocals of Bruno Mars, he is continuously able to create new hit tracks that everyone loves to sing, especially when driving in the car.

8. "I'm The One" by DJ Khaled, Justin Bieber, Chance the Rapper, Quavo and Lil Wayne

Well isn’t this collaboration just impressive? All of these artists working together to create this hit was an absolute success because this song contains a little bit of everything, so it can easily appeal to a large fan base. Plus, can we just take a moment to appreciate the evolution of Justin Bieber’s vocals? He is phenomenal.

With music being one of the most universal things for people to bond over and share a common interest in, I can easily assure you that these tunes are worth adding to your playlist for this summer. So what are you waiting for? Check out some of these tunes, share them with your friends and have the greatest summer of your life!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
