Here we go, the beginning of disappointment: Mondays. I never knew that Mondays would give me so much hell, but now at least I know not to mess with it anymore and, baby, now we got bad blood! I shouldn’t have to disengage and cry, despite the fact that even my dad does sometimes, because gravity is working against me. Should I just give up cause this ain’t fun and I’ve got one last problem without Mondays. Besides I’m way in over my head here. Please, just be Friday. again!
1. "Gives You Hell" by The All-American Rejects.
“I wake up every evening/With a big smile on my face/And it never feels out of place/And you're still probably working/At a nine to five pace/ I wonder how bad that tastes.”
The nine to five pace tastes bad, very bad and we’re reminded every Monday whether we’re going to school, an internship, or work, and in some instances all three! Even though we know as adults that plastering on a fake smile is all a part of this thing called maturity we still resent every moment. The Monday blues are seen within us and the fear in others eyes because you home them seeing your face gives them just as much hell as pretending does!
2. "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift.
“Oh, it's so sad to think about the good times/You and I/ 'Cause baby now we got bad blood/ You know it used to be mad love/So take a look at what you've done/'Cause baby now we got bad blood.”
You know those weekends that you don’t ever want to end? Like the kind that’s so good you start to think recklessly, like wanting to quit your job and responsibilities for a life full of adventure good, but you know in the end that would be a colossal mistake? Yeah, well here Monday is again to remind you that it doesn’t give a crap how your weekend was. You were so happy and now you have trust issues with this particular day of the week that you used to love as a child. Now we’ve got bad blood Mondays, and things used to be so good before you!
3. "I Don’t F*ck With You" by Big Sean.
“I don't f*ck with you/You little stupid ass bitch, I ain't f*ckin' with you/ You little, you little dumb ass bitch, I ain't f*ckin' with you/ I got a million trillion things I'd rather f*ckin' do/Than to be f*ckin' with you.”
You don’t scare me, Mondays! What you think you’re better than me cause you’re all structured and whatnot? Don’t answer that cause the answer is no! You're the problem, and you know what? I got a million trillion things I could be doing like sleep, but you’re jealous and decided for the universe that I couldn’t.
4. "Even My Dad Does Sometimes" by Ed Sheeran.
“It's alright to cry/ Even my dad does sometimes/ So don't wipe your eyes/ Tears remind you you're alive.”
There’s a reason people whip out a bottle of wine after Mondays. Nobody ever comes up to you at the end of the day and is like, “Wow, I actually had a really good day!” Instead we’re all comparing the insane multitude of work assignments and homework assigned to us that we know will increase throughout the week. So for now before you dive head first in all that work, just know that it’s alright to cry, even my dad does sometimes! Everybody does it and quite frankly I’d get in that cry before the week is in full swing and you don’t have time.
5. "Problem" by Ariana Grande.
“Hey baby, even though I hate ya/I wanna love ya/And even though I can't forgive ya/I really want to.”
Trust me, I’ve been trying to like Mondays for a while, now. As excited as I am about my career and success, Mondays still end bleak no matter what positive attitude I start out with. I sincerely hate you despite all my efforts to give them a fair chance, after all it is just a day of the week and it shouldn’t carry the weight of doomsday right? Wrong and I really don’t want to blame the fact that every Monday I find myself asking “Why me?” and “Is this punishment for that one thing I did many years?” but I just can’t forgive you and I really want to! One less problem without Monday’s, amiright?!
6. "Ain’t It Fun" by Paramore.
“Ain't it fun/Living in the real world/Ain't it good/ Being all alone.”
No, no, no, did I forget to mention no? Because waking up at 8 a.m., sometimes beforehand if I failed to lose sleep the night before to finish something, has not made me think any of this is fun. If by fun you mean miserable then yes living in the real world is awesome. But, really, where did the time pass that I am now in charge of the outcome of my life? Whenever the baton passed onto me I was not prepared and I’m not sure I can successfully finish this race!
7. "Gravity" by John Mayer.
“Gravity is working against me/And gravity wants to bring me down.”
I’ll forever be waiting on the world to change; however, when the Monday blues hit it feels as though the rest of the week will continue to be a downhill. No matter how hard you try it can feel as though you’re fighting gravity and this day is working against you. Similar to sentiments by DJ Khaled that, “They don’t want you to have success," John Mayer understands that, yes, you are trying your hardest but unfortunately the odds are stacked up against you!
8. "Chasing Pavements" by Adele.
“Should I give up/Or should I just keep chasing pavements?/Even if it leads nowhere/Or would it be a waste?”
Be honest with me friends, should I give up? Cause whatever chasing pavements means I’d rather do that than get up, get dressed and be a professional adult. Like I could go chase waves, chase the subway line to Neverland, or run away from the responsibilities chasing me, let's just hope I’m fast enough!
9. "Over My Head (Cable Car)" by The Fray.
“I'd rather run the other way than stay and see/The smoke, and who's still standing when it clears/ Everyone knows I'm in/Over my head.”
I’m sorry, Mom and Dad! Seriously you were right when you said I’d be thankful for everything you did for me once I move out. But you know, moving out was more of like a temporary thing. Everyone knows I’m in over my head especially my long-term frenemy Monday and I can’t give them the satisfaction of knowing they were right! But I never knew it would be this hard to be so positive, tell me how you made it through this one day, what was your secret?
Mondays sound great, through headphones and muffled background noise, so get your iPod and start listening to better prepare yourself for the impending doom!
