Some Songs I Love

Music has always been an incredibly important part of my life. I love the power behind it, and the ability that music has to be there for you no matter what. I also love the way that certain lyrics or melodies can have so much meaning behind them. While I could go on for hours about songs that are important to me, here's a select few.

1. What Do I Know? by Ed Sheeran

If there's one song that sums up how I feel about music and the power of it, this is it. The song talks about how music can change the world, which I'm a firm believer in. It's a song about spreading love, which is what I always aim to do, and it inspires me to continue to do so.

2. Imagine by John Lennon

This song is one of my favorites of all time. I love the message the song conveys, about dreaming of a world where everyone is kind to each other and accepts each other. I'm someone who's extremely passionate about equality, and this song speaks to that.

3. Shake It Out by Florence and the Machine

Whenever I listen to this song, I get chills. The lyrics are so powerful, as it talks about living a life free of negativity and judgement. This song inspires and empowers me, not just through the lyrics but also through the victorious melody. It reminds me to go through life with no regrets, and to focus on all the experiences life can bring.

4. Uptight (Everything's Alright) by Stevie Wonder

This song radiates optimism, and never fails to make me smile no matter what the situation is. Sometimes at the end of a long day, you just need a song you can sing and dance to, and that's exactly what it is for me. The song purely just makes me happy and helps me to appreciate what I have. Plus, Stevie Wonder is just the best.

5. You've Got To Learn by Nina Simone

While I love Nina Simone's voice and the melody of the song, my favorite part of this song is the lyrics. For me, this song reminds me to power through difficult experiences and recognize all of the things I've dealt with and handled in my life. Anytime I'm feeling hopeless or like I'm not capable of something, this is the song I turn to.

Music is my outlet for everything. I struggle to explain my love for it, but hopefully the importance of these songs shows a little bit of how much music means to me.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
