Some Lessons We Forget From Kairos

God grant me the serenity to accept things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.

Some Lessons We Forget From Kairos
Peri Long

During my Junior year of high school, I had the opportunity to go a retreat for a couple days called Kairos. And there is not a day that goes by where I don't forget those couple days. Being in a group with a couple girls I had never talked to and a random teacher did make me nervous. But afterward, it's like we had been friends all along. Almost a year later I got to lead Kairos with some amazing girls, we were able to make this retreat as special for these girls as it was for us. But sometimes we forget all the things we learned on Kairos, all the things we preached about.

1. God's Time

Kairos is greek for God's Time. Stop looking at the time and take time out of our day to focus on what really matters in our lives.

2. Everyone Has a Story

Being in a group with a couple random girls and two close friends made me realize that everyone around us different stories. Life is hard and a lot harder for some people and we don't realize that enough.

3. You are Loved

Being on this retreat makes you experience love in a whole other way. Whether it's with yourself, God, or others around you being around others who are here with you and to support you.

4. God Moments

God Moments are times when you see God in a moment or a person or just anywhere. These moments are so special and we learn to cherish them and that they are all around us.

5. God is Always There For You

An important lesson I learned from Kairos is that when you think you're alone and no one is there for you, God is. This is easier said than done but it's true. While on Kairos you are able to spend a whole day thinking of your relationship with God.

6. Remember to Live the Fourth

Live every day like it's the fourth day of the retreat. love yourself, love your neighbor and remember to love God.

7. God Puts Obstacles in Your Life because He knows You can Handle Them

Everything happens for a reason and God made you because we each have a purpose in this life. When times seem rough, know that this isn't the end and that your purpose is live life the best of your ability. and you can get through it.

There is not a day that goes by where I don't think about how I can better myself and I learned that from this retreat and how important it is to know how to love yourself and love God. Reflect on your time at this retreat, it's as long as you make it. Never forget the memories and always remember to Live the Fourth. Live the Fourth mean to live your life as the fourth day of the retreat.

God Bless.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
