Some Jobs Are Worth Melting For.

If you love what you're doing, you'll never work a day.

They say if you find a job you love, you never work a day in your life. I really didn't buy into this idea... I figured a job was a job, and if I liked it, it was less of a hassle, but I could never see myself in the shoes of someone who loved going to work every day. I've spent years working long hours, long weeks, and I didn't hate it, but I couldn't call it love. Very recently I found myself in the market for a new job. I wanted something different, something a little more fun, something to make my days a little brighter. After a few weeks without any luck, I decided to apply somewhere that I knew best-- my favorite shoe store. I've always loved Journeys, I love shoes, I love Vans Warped Tour, I love music, I love it all. Little did I know, that in filling out an application for my favorite store, I'd find myself falling in love with work for the first time. Working for Journeys has given me the opportunity to believe that work can be fun, light and ultimately, extremely enjoyable.

Here's why I love working for Journeys.

You're encouraged and expected to be yourself.

There was no awkward get-to-know-you period, or struggle to fit in during my first week. The second I walked through the door, people were talking to me, and laughter, fun, and friendship came naturally. I felt encouraged to be who I am and supported in my training by the people around me. It was comfortable and engaging, and I felt as if I was joining on giant staff family.

You're encouraged to succeed.

They want you to do your best, and they want to help you achieve your best. Of course, like with any job, there are high goals and expectations. But I never felt overwhelmed or nervous. They coach you through all of the hard parts and cheer you on the whole time.

The music is awesome.

If you're anything like me, you get bored with mainstream radio tunes. I live for alternative music, and I always found it difficult to get through the day listening to the same radio hits over and over again. The music at Journeys is refreshing and it makes every day just a little bit easier.

The people are better.

Anytime I have ever walked into a Journeys store, I have the same thing to say: they are filled with really interesting, fun, and friendly people. There's always someone to talk to, something to talk about, and someone dancing their way through the store. The environment is light and fun, and it's the best part of my day,

If you haven't had the opportunity to fall in love with a job, I encourage you to find one that fills your days with joy. From a non-believer, If you find a job you love, you never work a day in your life -- and I definitely have never worked a day at Journeys.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
