Some College Memories Come And Go, Others Are Forever

Some things never change!

As my sophomore year ends, all I can think to do is compare end of freshman year me to me now. Some things have changed, but some have stayed the same.

1. Last Year, I Packed The Day I Moved Out

I learned from that mistake real quick. This year, I was packed up about a week before I was scheduled to move out. I had some outside motivation to make sure Freshman year me didn't show up again.

2. Last Year, I Came Home With More Than I Left With

This year was no different. Last year swaps got me, this year it was T-shirts.

3. Last Year, I Started My Zap Board

This year, I added another. My plan is to have one board per year, and then make a scrapbook when I graduate. I love my Zaps, y'all!

4. Last Year I Became A Little

This year, I got my own. She's my person, she inspires me, I love her, and I'd do anything for her. I really don't know how I made it 19 years without her.

5. Last Year, I Had No Idea What Kind Of Friendships Were Coming My Way

I knew them both last year, but I feel like both friendships flourished when I needed them most this year. I've definitely found some of my forever friends in these two. To Amanda (top), see you in approximately 24 days... it's been a long semester without you. To Liz (bottom), I cherish our weekly dinner parties more than you ever know. Glad we have each other to vent to in times of crisis.

6. Last Year, I Went Home For School Breaks

This year, I traveled. On fall break, I got the chance to go to Voodoo, a music festival in New Orleans (be still my heart, we will be reunited soon.) For spring break, we went to Pensacola. We stayed in Air BnBs both times, but I'd definitely prefer the one in Pensacola any day of the week.

7. Last Year, My Phone Was Shattered To High Hell

Literally shattered to the point I had to turn it off so it wouldn't do weird shit. I updated to an 8 over Easter weekend, but somehow my screen protector is already cracked...

8. I'm Still With Riley

Even though we hit a rough patch over the summer, we're back and better than ever.

9. My Guys Helped Me Move In And Out

Honestly, couldn't ask for a better moving crew. Thanks for putting up with all my shit all the time. Love you forever!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
