Last week I wrote and shared an article strongly worded, "Screw Feminism, Let's Bring Back Sisterhood."
I suggest you read it before following through with this article.
As are most feminism heavy articles, it was widely disagreed with, talked about, and received lots of backlash. But only from women. Which is fine, because that is who the article was written for. However, the article was written to remind women we're all in this race together. To remind women that the term "feminism" isn't the most important thing, the most important thing is the relationships we build with each other, the way we empower each other daily, and the words and actions we take as women.
We're more than the word "feminist." We are strong, but we're also gentle and that's good. We're passionate, but we're also intentional and that's good. We're individuals but we're also women. We should take pride in all aspects of who we are and maybe things like the love, wisdom, and grace of a woman should be at the forefront of our lives instead of this constant "ready to attack" feminist mindset.
The article was written because too often people don't associate our femininity with feminism anymore. Woman and feminist should be one. But quite frankly, we've thrown our femininity aside to pursue strength and power and equality to men - which is not feminine at all. We're not the same. Neither is lesser, but we are not the same, and by claiming that we are the same, we throw our femininity aside.
I'm writing this article now to explain to all the women out there, mothers, strangers, friends, and even my own family members, that were upset with my article.
I want it to be known that I by no means am taking the freedoms I have now for granted. My dad fought for them for 25 years and I am well aware women in the past have fought for what I have now. Maybe I have yet to be treated as "lesser" by the other sex. Maybe I'm inexperienced and young, but I will not apologize for personally believing there are more important things this world needs than the aggressive, innapropriate, and ungrateful feminist fight I've seen in the media and in my personal life.
The people of the United States of America have more freedoms than most countries and societies across the world and it's time we start acknowledging that instead of finding the next best thing to complain about.
