Ten Best Things To Do When You're Bored

Because it happens all the time and I'm getting really bored of it.

I can not tell you how many times I've laid in my bed and thought about how bored I was or that I have nothing to do. But don't do these all in the same day or else you'll have nothing to do the next time you're bored.

1. Netflix, Netflix, and more Netfllix

Seriously, start a new show, rewatch an old one, or binge on scary movies. This is the ultimate way to stay in bed without having the constant bored feeling.

2. Start a project

Recently I've been doing cool Pinterest DIY's, planning a vacation, and looking up countless tattoo ideas to cover my entire body. This can keep me busy for a few hours, especially if I'm really into what I'm doing.

3. Go somewhere

Go especially if you have access to a car or train because you can actually get anywhere. Go to the beach, a city, a zoo, the mall, etc. Your options are endless.

4. Clean and organize

Yes, you have to be the end all be all and poster child for boredness at this level, but depending on how dirty or unorganized you are this could take up a few hours of your time.

5. Volunteer

This one is a favorite because you get to help people and make others happy, and that feels really good too. Plus, it doesn't hurt to have volunteer hours on your resumé.

6. Exercise

And it doesn't have to be going to the gym or going running for hours. You can go for a bike ride, go swimming, or start a game of basketball with some friends.

7. Listen to some new music

There is almost an infinite amount of music out there. Find a new favorite song, find new music to hate; just do something.

8. Take a nap

The best way to waste a few hours is to just sleep, and I don't think anyone will disagree.

9. Earn some money

I don't mean going out and getting a full time job, but there are apps like Spare5 that pay you to do small tasks for a little bit of money, and it adds up. (It actually does work; I've been using it for a while.) Or find some old clothes, toys, or gaming systems, and sell them online.

10. Do something stupid and funny.

I always see those little blurbs about people pretending to be secret agents in an elevator, asking random people for autographs, or someone putting a Dora doll in the middle of the mall and when someone tries to pick it up yell "SWIPER NO SWIPING." These things get you out of the house and cracking up.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
