First things first. Go to college. Got that? Okay now get some experience. An internship maybe. Got that too? Awesome! Now you have some credibility. You can begin that dream job you’ve always wanted to do.
If school, money, time, and the pressures of society weren’t an issue – if you could start living your dream RIGHT NOW, what would that look like?
Think about your education. What are you studying? Is it something you enjoy? Something you’re excited to do in the future?
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men. Colossians 3:23
Going into college, I wanted to be a Physical Therapist. Partly because I thought I’d enjoy it and maybe be good at it, but the pay and prestige I thought it’d bring played a big role as well.
But then I realized I didn’t want to go to school that long. I realized that’s not what I really wanted to do, and turns out I really don’t care how much money I’ll make. Suddenly a prestigious title and a high salary were not priorities. So I switched my major.
What I’m trying to say is that it really doesn’t matter what you’re studying. It doesn’t matter how much money you're going to make or how prestigious your job title will be. What matters is how you use your education to glorify God. Because THAT is what really matters. Glorifying God. And what better way to glorify God than through something you love?
So maybe you’ve been debating switching your major to something that doesn’t look as impressive to the outside world. Maybe you’re only going to college because that’s the norm. College is great and education is important. But if you’re not all in – if you’re not dedicated to what you’re studying, why do it? Think back to that question: if you could start living your dream right now, what would that look like? …Are you on a path that is headed in that direction?
God wants the most dedicated over the most educated.
So maybe you’re headed in the right direction. School isn’t always fun, but you’re on a path that is leading you to a career you’re passionate about – one you will enjoy while glorifying God. And that’s awesome. Really, it is.
But that’s not the case for everyone.
So change your major. Maybe even drop out, I don’t know. Just make sure that whatever you do – it’s what you love. Do what God has made you passionate about... because that’s how you’re going to glorify Him best.
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31
