Skidmore College is great, but no matter where you go, starting out as a freshman is tough. For all of the incoming freshman (and anyone else), I have composed a “bucket list” of some of the best experiences one can find at Skidmore.
1. Go to an open mic.
If you can manage to pull yourself away from your studies a Thursday night, check out an open mic! This is a great way to see some of the student talent on campus.
2. Go to the roof of the Tang.
Check out one of the views most raved about at Skidmore.
3. Actually go inside the Tang.
Amazing art, fun events…need I say more?
4. Talk to the London freshman.
After the first semester people feel that they are already in the swing of things. Yet, it is worthwhile to expand your circle and meet new people. Spread some of your wisdom to those who may need it!
5. Explore the woods.
Besides fresh air and a nice hike, you can find many hidden gems in the woods such as a tree swing or the art covered water tower that's great for photo ops. Your Instagram will thank you.
6. Wander downtown.
There are too many places to recommend downtown to fit on this list. The best way to learn about downtown Saratoga is to explore. It is always fun to find a spot that maybe no one else knows about!
7. Bring a blanket and hang out on the green.
This is really fun to do on a nice day. Get some sunshine and fresh air. Bring a picnic, read a book, or hang out with friends.
8. Take a class outside of your major.
Try something new! It may be scary to leave your comfort zone, but what do you have to lose? You might end up taking your favorite class of your Skidmore career.
9. Cook a meal.
Sometimes you get sick of dining hall food and takeout. Nothing beats a home cooked meal, right? Cooking on campus forces you to be resourceful. Get ingredients from the dining hall or downtown. Find cooking supplies and see what you can get together. There are also many dorm room recipes available online.
10. Go to a Tuesday night movie.
Get a Super Tuesday discount at BowTie Cinemas and see a movie for $6 on Tuesday (on a *gasp* school night!).
I am sure many others can add to this list, but here is a starting point of some of the best experiences at Skidmore and Saratoga Springs. Have fun!
