If you're like me, some days nothing sounds better than getting lost in a good book. I've always loved reading, to the extent where everyone calls me a nerd or a bookworm. In fact, one of my goals in life is to one day have enough money for a library in my home, filled floor to ceiling with books. You might say I'm a bookaholic. I know I'm not the only one out there, though, so here are several thing you know to be true if you love reading as much as I do.
1. Nothing beats that brand new book feeling.
I'm a broke college student, so many times I have to rely on the library for the latest fiction and other books I HAVE to read. However, sometimes you just have to splurge, and when you do, nothing beats the smell of that new book and the feeling you get when you hold it in your hands. Just seeing that Barnes & Noble bag is enough to make you smile.
2. You wish the characters were real.
Authors make characters in books so relatable and honest, and the more you read, the more you feel as if they are humans, even your friends, because they just get you, sometimes more so than real people. It's a real let down when you realize they only exist in the pages of a book.
3. It's just the worst when you have to stop reading and go back to the real world.
Everything is better in a book. No, books are not always happy, sometimes they even make you cry, but they get help you get lost in a blur of words and pages. In that time, your real life stresses and worries do not exist. You can travel to all kinds of places without even moving your feet. When something like classes or homework interrupts your fantasy, it is so very depressing to realize that you have to stop reading and focus on your very real problems.
4. At a social event, you are counting down the minutes until you can leave and start reading again.
Sometimes, you have to be social. Yes, I understand the struggle. Once you begrudgingly go out with your friends, you realize that it is not so bad, and you have more fun than you thought you would. However, there is that persistent voice in the back of your mind saying, "Okay, only one more hour," then "Thirty minutes and I'm out of here," then "YES. I'M DONE SOCIALIZING. I CAN GO READ."
5. Sometimes you are so shocked by the twist in a book that you just have to put it down.
Wow. What just happened? You don't even know what to think anymore. You have to just take a minute to process that.
6. You constantly suffer from a book hangover.
"Book hangover" has two definitions: 1) You have an inability to function at school or work because you have been up all night binge-reading. You don't regret a minute of it. 2) You've been reading that book all day, and you cannot put it down, but when you finish it, you feel as though as a part of you is gone. You just feel depressed and empty and it takes a little while before you can force yourself to move on and read a different book.
