At some point or another, we all realize that we're more like our parents than we'd like to admit. Here are 16 signs that you're turning into your mom or dad.
1. You start telling your significant other all of the things your parents used to tell each other.
You may find yourself trying to use some of your parents' inside jokes with your significant other, but you'll soon realize that your boyfriend or girlfriend has absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
2. You forget how many times you've told the same funny family story to your friends.
While you think the story about you that family gathering is hilarious, your friends didn't really find it as funny as your family did the first time they heard it, let alone the sixth time.
3. You start to appreciate the little things, like when all the dishes are clean or the laundry is done.
It's the simple things.
4. If someone you know has messy clothes or hair, you immediately start trying to fix them. If you don't know them, though, let the judging begin.
You're either constantly preening others or silently judging them. There is no in-between.
5. You finally start to listen to your parents' advice from when you were a kid.
You wouldn't even dream of leaving the house without a sweater or going out with wet hair.
6. You suddenly realize that you could be doing much more productive things than binging Orange Is the New Black.
Not only do you realize it, but you actually stop your binge-watching to go be productive.
7. You actually start to care about what you eat.
Maybe that bacon cheeseburger and fries really aren't what you need today.
8. You look forward to going grocery shopping every week.
It's even better when your favorite food is on sale.
9. You become more and more conscious of the money you spend.
While you could easily blow $60 on bathing suits before, you now think about how many bills you could pay or how much more food you could buy with that extra cash.
10. You have no problem staying in on the weekends.
If going out used to be your thing, it isn't anymore.
11. You can automatically finish your parents' corny jokes, but you still think they're all hilarious.
Who doesn't love a good dad joke?
12. You come to the realization that your parents really always did what was best for you.
You might not have realized it then, but you totally see where they were coming from now.
13. You adopt several of your parents' pet peeves.
Who left only one Oreo? Why is the door not locked? Who left the lights on after they left the house?
14. You start keeping a bunch of old stuff because it reminds you of when you were younger.
Those were the days.
15. You start trying to replicate all of the family recipes, but realize that your parents are much better cooks than you.
So you promptly ask your mom for all of her cooking secrets.
16. You realize just how lucky you had it as a kid because you had some amazing parents.
We really don't thank you guys enough. It may take us a while to realize that being a parent is a huge job, but once we do, we are eternally grateful for everything you've done for us.
(Thank you, Mom and Dad, for all of the little things you do. I'm starting to realize how much I'm like y'all, and I actually don't mind it. I love you both!)
