Signs You Grew Up In South Charlotte
  • You have been to a million concerts at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater.
  • You still call it Verizon Wireless Amphitheater (because PNC sounds weird).
  • You have had a Carowinds season pass at one point in your life.
  • And you still call all the rides at Carowinds by their original names (RIP Top Gun).
  • Your friends that aren't from Charlotte think South Park mall is the greatest thing ever and you just think it's normal.
  • But you still feel super fancy when you're there.
  • You've been to at least one birthday dinner at Nakato or Kabuto.
  • Your idea of doing something fun is going to Amelie's.
  • The new Knights stadium is a really big deal.
  • You are so thankful that the buzz is back and the Bobcats are gone (go Hornets).
  • You've obviously been to a Panther's game.
  • Whenever you go to NoDa you feel super artsy.
  • The epicentre is still really exciting to you.
  • Going to Scarowinds was the thing to do in middle/high school during the month of October.
  • A good majority of your friends are probably lifeguards.
  • You know that Club Phoenix and Whiskey River are a joke.
  • You've been to at least one sporting event at Colonel Beatty Park.
  • You try to avoid driving on Independence Boulevard at all costs.
  • You know to never go on 485 around 5 p.m.
  • You will always choose South Park over Carolina Place (unless you need to go to Forever 21).
  • You think the giant Christmas tree on 485 is ridiculous but you also think the government might be using it to spy on you.
  • You went to SNS or Jammin at the J in middle school and got your grindin' on.
  • You went to Discovery Place on at least one school field trip.
  • You always say you're from Charlotte even though you're technically from right outside of Charlotte (but really I could be Uptown in 20 minutes if you want to challenge me).
  • You say uptown instead of downtown.
  • You refer to Charlotte as the QC or Queen City and are super proud about it.
  • You've definitely been to Hickory Tavern.
  • Prom is always Uptown at a fancy hotel (or sometimes the Panther's stadium).
  • You've been to a concert at the Filmore or Amos.
  • It's not that weird to see a professional athlete around town (or in your neighborhood).
  • You've gotten lost in Providence Plantation before.
  • You remember when the roof caved in at South Park.
  • You have multiple friends whose parents work for Bank of America or Wells Fargo.
  • You probably haven't been to the NASCAR Hall of Fame uptown because why would you?
  • You've taken the light rail to Speed Street.
  • You're not surprised if you go through a metal detector to go to a high school football game.
  • You see Elevation car stickers everywhere.
  • Your high school most likely has YoungLife.
  • You know that if you go to McAdenville around the holidays you will sit in traffic for over an hour to drive through the town in 10 minutes.
  • Driving through downtown Matthews is such a hassle.
  • You have dressed up to a varsity football game with the sole purpose of making fun of the other team.
  • You roll your eyes when people say they're from Charlotte when they're actually from Lake Norman or Rock Hill (AKA not Charlotte).
  • You've had school canceled because of freezing rain or the slight chance of there possibly being a snowflake.
  • There are really only two seasons here: hot and cold (even though cold is really like 40 degrees).
  • You know where the big pink church is.
  • Ace & TJ have accompanied you on your ride to school in the morning.
  • You know where the Kabob hookah place is on Independence.
  • Chick-fil-A was vital to your high school career.
  • You probably went to Myrtle Beach for at least one spring break.
  • You still don't think it's fair public schools have to play private schools in state playoffs.
  • When someone says "Carolina" they're always referring to UNC.
  • If you were born here, you were born at Presbyterian or CMC.
  • You're considered an endangered species if you AND one of your parents grew up in Charlotte.
  • Construction will never end at Charlotte-Douglass Airport.
  • NEVER.
  • Or on 485.
  • You can drive on the same road and it will change names 4 times.
  • A lot of our high schools double as churches on Sundays.
  • There are WAY too many Harris Teeters.
  • You could live across the street from a school but go to a school 10 miles away from you.
  • You can't wait to get out of Charlotte but you wouldn't have wanted to grow up anywhere else.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
