10 Ways To Tell You Were Actually A Feminist This Whole Time

Feminism should be a human quality, NOT a debated ideology.

Again and again, feminism has truly stood its test against time. Throughout history, women and even men have put their blood, sweat and tears into the fight against gender discrimination. Though many people believe in equality, feminism has created a stormy debate on whether the ideology truly has good intentions or not. Feminism should have never become the debated ideology it is today. In it's purest form, feminism is a fight for equality and impartiality. So if any of these thoughts ever cross your mind, you're probably a feminist.

1. Do you hate the stereotypes (even for men)? What about the conformity?

Being a born certain gender isn't like being prescribed medicine. You shouldn't have to do certain things at certain times for certain results while worrying about the side effects (AKA society's reactions).

2. When you listen to a rap song, some of the misogynistic (or even misandristic) lyrics make you very uncomfortable.

Our pop music defined by objectifying lyrics. The thought is, the more objectifying the lyric, the more superior the singer sounds. Little do they know that they're just helping the spread another form of evil.

3. You also hate racism and any other form of discrimination.

Discrimination among races, sexuality and wealth class is the same as discrimination among sexes. If you vouch against one form of discrimination, you vouch against all forms of discrimination.

4. It bothers you that in the 239 years America has been a country, we've never had a female president.

Don't say women aren't ready for America. It's America that's not ready for women.

5. Equal work deserves equal pay.

At the end of the day, a lack of 21 cents for every dollar will add up. This issue with a simple solution has caused complex problems for women.

6. You're broken at the fact that there even had to be a #WhyIStayed.

Why not #WhyDidTheyDoIt?

7. You know victim blaming is a huge problem.

It will NEVER be the victim's fault, no matter if she or he was drunk or dressed a certain way or any other reason. Because while the victim never had a choice, the offender did.

8. When you realize that your school dress code basically targets girls

So girls can't wear shorts in the warm weather just because guys have the problem of distraction? That seems like a problem involving the attention span of boys, not the way girls dress.

9. It infuriates you that male politicians are getting in the way of how a female treats her own body.

What does politics have to do with how a woman handles her own body?

10. You know that this fight is to balance the system, not flip it.

For so long, people have thought that feminism is something that will topple the throne of men in society, but it's not. It's not extreme or anti-men. Feminism is the fight for equality between genders in hopes that one day men and women will be considered alike in all aspects of life: politically, emotionally and personally.

"If you believe in equality, you're a feminist. Sorry to tell you." - Emma Watson

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
