6 Little Signs That Mean It's Almost The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

Christmas is my favorite time of the year because it means family and giving. It means even more to me this year because I am away at college for the rest of the year. When I see these signs of Christmas, I get a little more excited to go home and spend time with my family.

1. Street lamps and shopping plazas are decorated.

When the tinsel bells and angels appear on streetlights, you know Christmas is coming.

2. Starbucks' holiday cups come out.

Nothing screams Christmas more than people walking around with bright red and green Starbucks cups.

3. It's boot season.

When people pull out those cute winter boots and boot socks, you know that December is arriving quickly.

4. Small businesses will play Christmas music (before the big retailers will).

The little bookstore on the corner will be decking the halls with their happy holiday music before the big department stores will. When the small businesses start to play Christmas music, you know it's almost time for Santa to pay a visit.

5. You start seeing "holiday bundles" of candy, makeup, and soaps in stores.

We all know the "holiday gift set" of popcorn or lipstick or bath bombs that stores sell to make Christmas a little easier (and yes, it totally works).

6. Turkeys and hams are advertised in grocery stores, along with everything else you need for Christmas dinner.

Suddenly, the middle of grocery store aisles feature ingredients like Christmas cookies and candy, sweet potatoes, and hams and turkeys. That's when you know that a good Christmas meal is just on the horizon.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
