Dear Boyfriends, Girlfriends, and anyone else in that list,
In the beginning. we all know that there is a honeymoon stage and it varies how long it will last. This stage is the stage of where everything is cute, sweet, and simple depending on the stage. This is the stage where people test the waters to see what they can and cannot get away with, how to push their buttons, and so on and so forth.
Now you have come out of that honeymoon stage and you still like each other! This is where the waters are tested and you see how strong the relationship is. The stuff you got away with you cannot get away with anymore and the more you try the more pissed off your significant other gets.
Here is the kicker to all of this: for some odd and strange reason, YOU ARE NOT CATCHING THE HINT TO CUT IT OFF!
"No no I know exactly what they are saying and I heard them loud and clear." is the response you would give me as I am giving you a glare like no other. Let's be real here: you actually did not actually hear them because if you did than we would not be here...so let's move on than!
"What do you mean? I always listen to them when they need to vent and I try to be there for them when I can." Are you on your phone? Are you playing Candy Crush? Did you actually here them say that they are feeling unhappy and your 'natural response' is "it will get better" when they want to hear "I am here for you no matter what."
What am I getting at here? YOU NEED TO OPEN YOUR EYES BEFORE YOU LOSE THEM!
Lose them? Yes you read that right because if you are not trying to be there for them, meet them 50/50, and actually being a normal human being. Being in a relationship means so much more than giving than just automatic responses and hopefully saying what they want to hear to make them happy.
Being in a relationship means doing the things that are not required of you. Being in a relationship means that sometimes you have those awkward conversations, but you have it because you need to. Being in a relationship means doing those things that you do not want to make your significant other happy and its worth it to see them happy.
Being in a relationship means sacrifice and compromise and that is OKAY.
So to those that think that sex is the way to make a relationship work-that is not the answer.
So to those who think that ignoring your significant other and only texting to complain about your life without hearing them out-that is not okay.
Let me be very clear: if you read this, thought this could be you, and don't see a problem with that-you need to get your life in check and realize that your relationship is in trouble.
From the words of someone happy in her relationship, communication is key, trusting each other is key, and being friends is always important.
