Being sick is the absolute worst. It always seems to come at the most inconvenient times. Recently I was in bed with no energy to do anything but lie in bed all day and stare at a computer screen. Whenever I have my computer open I almost always have my Spotify application open to play something just to break up the monotony of having no one else around to talk to. Spotify is a music application that allows you to listen to thousands of different artists for free. This time around I’m going to be listing my top five favorite albums to listen to while I’m in quarantine with no voice and no homework (since school hasn’t started yet). They all have the same mellow vibes, since I don’t like to listen to anything too hardcore when my head feels like it is clogged with cotton balls. There are a variety of genres on this list so hopefully you’ll find something you like!
5. If You Leave by Daughter
This is an incredible CD. I found it one day when I was browsing Spotify because I was bored. The lead singer’s voice calm and soothing. I can listen to this album on repeat for hours. The lyrics are relatable as well; in almost every song I can find something to see myself in. Another thing to note about this album is that the guitar is incredible. If there were an album with just the instrumentals I would listen to that over and over again. Notable songs on this CD are Youth, Lifeforms, and Human.
4. Dopamine by BØRNS
This album is a little different than the first one I mentioned. The first song that drew me to BØRNS is Electric Love. That song played so many times on the radio that I got rather tired of it. I came across another one of his singles from an EP that was released, which led me to his first full-length album. The songs on this album are a bit more hit or miss with me, but my favorite songs are The Emotion, Holy Ghost, and Past Lives. I’ve listened to all of those songs hundreds of times on repeat, and honestly they are classic to me now.
3. 11:11 by Taeyon
Taeyon is a Korean artist who used to be a member of the famous girl group Girls’ Generation. She’s a solo artist now who only has one EP and this song but 11:11 is so soothing that I can just get lost in it for hours. Other songs by her that are not necessarily calming for sick days but that are just as great are Hands On Me, and Why (both of these are from her Why mini album).
2. Tell Me I’m Pretty by Cage the Elephant
This is an alt rock album I’ve loved for a long time (even though it came out back in 2015). The garage band feel of the sound and lyrics always get me in a better mood. Even though I don’t love all the songs on this album equally (they’re all great but I have favorites, of course) it gets me through any sick day easily. The songs I have on repeat are Cold Cold Cold, That’s Right, and Punchin’ bag. An honorable mention song by them from a previous album is called Take it or Leave it from Melophobia.
