Thank You, Mom

The two words, “thank you,” will never have enough meaning when it comes to all that you have done for me. Thank you for spoiling me with kindness and affection and for providing me with unconditional love. Thank you for passing down your rhythm and passion for dancing to me, and for teaching me the importance of doing everything full-heartedly. Thank you for bellowing the lyrics to “Cake By The Ocean” on long car drives home and showing me that you do not have to be the best at everything to embrace everything.

Thank you for making me realize how much I am going to miss your homemade roasted broccoli while I am in college and why working hard and doing my best is an integral part of my future. Thank you for helping me run my errands when you know I am having a busy day and for giving me a candid opinion on my latest outfits. Thank you for laughing at my corny jokes when nobody else does and for coming up with sarcastic comebacks when I say something silly. Thank you for being my favorite person to grocery shop with and for teaching me the importance of balancing my priorities. Thank you for encouraging me to work out and for showing me that dressing conservatively is truly classy and stylish. Thank you for stinking up my car with the smell of your favorite licorice, and for making me realize that you can really make the best out of any situation. Thank you for being quirky and unique and for wearing those white, saggy jeans no matter how many times I tell you that you need tighter ones.

Thank you for staying up late to wait until I got home and for setting doctors appointments early in the morning, despite the fact that we all know I am not a morning person. Thank you for cooking omelettes for me at any hour, and for making house cleaning enjoyable by blasting overplayed radio music. Thank you for teaching me how to do my own laundry and for guiding me to the path of success as a newbie to college. Thank you for being my role model and for setting a great example the past 18 years. Thank you for your making me the young lady I am today and for always giving me endless encouragement with all that I pursue. Thank you. I love you.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
